Is iTunes a reason not to get the HTC One?

I really want to buy a HTC One over an Iphone 5 but there is one thing stopping me. I know itunes is very restrictive and not the best music player but I am pretty tied up in it. In albums I 'untick' the tracks I don't like to create albums where I don't have to skip through tracks. I like this as it means I don't have to delete the track altogether and is an easy way to control what music syncs onto my device and what doesn't. Also, as I listen to a lot of electronic music where tracks can be 7/8 minutes long, I set custom start and end times in the track options in itunes. My ipod is broken and I want my new phone to have all my music. So I need a way to get a carbon copy of my itunes onto android, including the custom start/end times, ratings etc. Most importantly, it must not sync the tracks I have unselected in itunes.

I tried google music in the google play store and was impressed by the interface and how it works but unfortunately it doesn't address any of my concerns above. Are there any music apps that do? iSyncr? Or if not is there a desktop music manager where I can import a carbon copy of my iTunes and then go from there? If not I fear I may have to settle for an iphone

I love iTunes too, honestly it's what's keeping me interested in iOS.

Custom Times is out of the picture, I'm anal about my start & stop times and had to "Toast" (Roxio) some of my tracks.

As for hTc Sync Manager, I can't get it to work. OP you will have to learn and live with Drag & Drop. Android File Transfer.

I used pod share to transfer my iTunes onto a micro SD card... Probably won't do the start stop features you are looking for... Matt

People ask this question all the time, it seems to be a real hangup.

I had more than $2,000 in music from iTunes when I first switched to android. A lot of this was purchased during the heavy-DRM period... So at first, it really killed me because most of my music would not play.

This is not the case anymore. Most iTunes music is DRM free now.

First, when iTunes introduced "iTunes plus", you had to pay to upgrade your songs to higher bit-rate and DRM free (my collection would have cost about $400 to convert), so I only converted my favorite stuff.

As it stands now, with the automatic removal of DRM from your library, as well as the rights agreement that Google has with the record labels, even that isn't really necessary.

For the MOST PART, all you have to do is download the Google play music uploader and have it scan your music. I'd say 95% of my music, regardless of DRM, uploaded. It doesn't actually upload most of the time, the song is just matched on the Google server.

So no, iTunes is no longer a reason to be stuck on apple. If you like iTunes, you can keep using it, and it'll automatically upload to your Google music when it downloads to your computer.

But honestly, amazon is undercutting both Google and apple in terms of cost, and I purchase more from them than anyone. The same rules apply.

For the few songs that won't upload, you can just burn and rip them. It is a hassle, but it is worth it to be free from iTunes.

Rocket player and isyncr make it as easy as managing an iPod.

I uploaded my whole collection to Google Music, any playlists I make in itunes shows up there.

I had exactly the same problem as you and pondered for over six months what to do. I have over 100gb of music on my hard drive and I managed it through the tick boxes. I now have the HTC one and use Google music and manage it by play lists. It has taken a while to do it and it may not be for every one but I had had enough of the clunky iTunes and the need to sync every time I added music.

Any questions let me know as it is a tough Decision

hell, drag and drop was a huge reason/bonus for dumping my iPhone in favour of an Android.

I have a program called free m4a to mp3 converter on my computer I use to make itunes files mp3s if I really want them on my phone (or to send them to other people... cough cough...). I think it works with even drm-ified itunes tracks, I've never received any error messages, may be worth a shot if that's the issue. It'll take a while to convert tons, and then you have everything saved twice, but if you just move it to your phone and then delete them off your computer, it could work? But it sounds like your issue is organization, not the file types. Have you tried doubletwist? I'm afraid I don't know much about airsync, but that could be an option for you? And google music has a syncing/cloud system, or did a couple years back when I gave it whirl.

Don't let other posts discourage you. There are several ways to sync your iTunes library with your device. There's HTC Sync Manager, iSyncr (which is paid for but exactly what you're looking for), Android File Transfer (where you can drag the whole iTunes library and drop it into your device and the structure will be fine), and many other ways I am not actually aware of.

If you have a lot of tunes skip HTC Sync Manager altogether or you may jump off a bridge. iSyncr is great for large libraries and to get just what you want on your device. I'm not sure if it will handle custom start and stop times, guessing not. I still use iTunes to buy music but it all syncs with Google Music as well as playlists so what's not to like? Still dump music on my 80gb iPod for the car but as I get used to the flow with Google system who knows.

I have tried out Google music but it included all my 'unticked' tracks in itunes and it didn't transfer the custom start/stop times. I emailed iSyncr about my query and they told me that using iSyncr with rocket player will allow the custom start/stop times to be transferred which is great. Just need to choose what colour HTC one I want now!

See my post above about iSyncr and rocket player. Will transfer your tracks with the custom start and stop times.

iTunes Sucks

I know but at this point where I have everything in there rated, playlisted and with custom start/stop times I am stuck with it. If there was a way to put a carbon copy of my iTunes into a different music manager software and then use that I would but it doesn't seem like there is a way.
