What are they thinking? They're already on bad terms with most people who read tech blogs for their broken promises, but now they're trying to shoot their own ships even further by releasing what seems to be an identical phone to the Razr MAXX with features that should have came on the original. What's wrong with the people at Motorola? Couldn't they have at least released this phone to another carrier? Verizon is the only carrier Motorola caters to which is why they're losing sales to Samsung and HTC, and it seems they're on the same path that almost killed their business in the first place which is flood the market with Razrs with a few modifications for each release. Also, the name Droid Fighter is stupid and the Droid brand has really been overused.

Bad terms with most people, or bad terms with most people on these forums? Big difference; especially when probably close to 90 percent of the people who own Android phones don't come to a forum.

Reading your post makes it sound like you are against progress. No company should produce a better phone (or other product) than what they produced months ago.

No one here really knows why Moto released the razr without a 720 screen. Possibly it was supply problems from the screen manufacture, so they released a phone with a display that, from reading forums, the majority like. And if you consider how many never read or post on these forums, one might think that majority also likes the screen.

I would agree the original should have had a larger battery, like the Maxx; however, it appears Moto is still selling the original razr as well as the maxx; therefore one can assume that many do not need the larger battery or do not want the thicker phone.

Really sounds like you are very upset about a new phone coming out that might make your current phone not the greatest available. If so, welcome to the club. Same will eventually happen to the fighter in a few months after it was released.

As for the name....that I agree with. It does sound dumb.

Motorola is like a faster paced Apple.

You knew the HD screen version was right around the corner after the MAXX was launched. Business as usual for Motorola. I don't fault them for making new phones, though. Verizon orders them.

+1 It's a simple case of supply and demand. If they don't sell, they'll think twice about ordering the next revision.

What broken promise? To unlock the boot loader buy a GSM phone yol have unlocked phone and ics. Vzw is the one at fault

I think when a company is feeling the pressure they may be more willing to release a device more quickly that will compete with their own phones.

If you look at the Razr compared to the Nexus, Motorola had to work to compete with Samsung. Now here we are, on the verge of 28nm quadcore devices with next generation LTE capabilities (referring to LTE onchip), if you have a device ready to compete with upcomming phones, or maybe a phone that won't be much competition in 2 months, wouldn't you consider competing with yourself to have the leg up on your competition?

Personally, I like to see new, better phones come out every 4-6 months. I'm always looking into the future and know what it is I'm waiting for. In my eyes, both the Razr and Nexus were not full steps forward, but a middle step between old and what we will be getting over the next 2 months. This Motorola Fighter may have been worth the wait for me if its packing a Qualcomm S4 chip, if not, well I'll keep an open mind.

I just posted in the other thread, but applies here as well:

Moto could have just released the 'Razr Maxx HD' back in November, I'm sure, but with this 'staggered' release strategy, I'm sure they're making more cash than if they had just released one model.

Plus, why wasted all the good selling points on one phone? The Razr was the thinnest, so it sold. The Maxx was thin and had the best battery of any Smartphone, so it sold. And the Fighter will have those points plus the HD screen, so that will sell as well. But, the old models will still sell as well, as some people will decide an extra $100 isn't worth the added battery life, or HD screen.

Its a good short term strategy. But, long term, it will probably alienate some customers who are upset because they bought X phone before Y/better phone came out.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that the same technology might have been possible to include, but most people; and therefore all carriers, would be unwilling to pay the price at that particular time. Six months makes a huge difference in the cost of production time lines for technology. Otherwise everyone would be selling today's concept tonight to keep up with market demand. Most people cannot afford technology rushed on the market.

Would you be willing to have bought the Razr if it come out with the HD screen but had to be priced $200 USD more? Keep in mind that not just the screen would have to be upgraded. It's not a simple substitution since the hardware has to be adapted to run/control all that HD goodness too. Plus the battery mAh needs to be upped, so on and so forth. It might be important enough to you but most would not be clambering to buy a $595.00 USD phone w/2 year contract. I'm a gadget slut but I'll leave that kind of cost to the early adopters that have no other hobbies.

Trying to sit on technology and not make a new device so soon would be a mistake. That would be stating to the market "we're now going to make this device the greatest to ever be released, so no need to ever buy a later model because this one will always be as good". The year after that, everyone working there would be looking for a new job and worried about feeding their kiddos. The CEO would be blowing people on the street and hoping for pocket change to be thrown into his cup. You know, pretty much what's happening to RIM... LOL

I don't think bloggers are a useful index for anything that truly affects anyone in a serious manner. Maybe I'm getting too old for them... I dunno. Only on rare exceptions are blogs anything more than speculation with a remainder of re-posted/re-linked news typed by someone that thinks he/she is qualified to report. When is the last time a blogger on "wordpress" or "blogspot" was held accountable for slander? Never because common people know that blogs are mostly useless if the information is critical. Hang in there.

Just more Motorola phones to be obsolete in fewer months than usual. Be ready to have a phone that is almost worth nothing.. while iPhones hold their price.

That might be the case but all the moto phones recently out still out perform the iPhone so they are still ahead even with frequent releases

That is why every android is nearly worthless a few months after you buy it and iphones hold value so well.

If anything, this makes me want to get the Nexus.. just so it wont instantly be outclassed by another version 2 months later

As long as Verizon wants to pay money to Lucas, the DROID branding isn't going away. It's a huge selling point for Verizon Android phones - if it's not DROID branded, it won't get the marketing support from Verizon.

DROID Fighter for all intents and purposes is probably just a codename.

The Maxx is probably what the original DROID RAZR should have been, but then would they have been able to claim world's thinnest smartphone?

For all we know, the Maxx was a fluke - wasn't there a story of a random engineer presenting it to Jha? Aren't the only differences between the DROID RAZR and DROID RAXR Maxx just a new back to support a bigger battery?

Agreed.

Doesn't HTC also have a list of phones that have an unlockable bootloader? And no HTC phones for Verizon are on it.

Motorola is in the same boat. Blame Verizon.

poor Motorola....Google just wanted their patents (which I didn't want to admit ) and my dream of Google allowing the OS to stay open while making a premium ecosystem of Android with hardware under one roof has pretty much vanished:'(

I think what also gets people upset is that the DROID Bionic had just come out in September. Two months later, it was replaced in the pecking order by the DROID RAZR.

People forget the Bionic was delayed (by a lot). It was probably too far along to be completely scrapped. The last four months of 2011 were huge for Verizon releases (Bionic, Rezound, DROID RAZR, Galaxy Nexus).

There's always going to be a better phone coming out tomorrow. They's just the way t is for Android.

I'd like to see Motorola (on Verizon) do three to four phones per year, a DROID (slider), a DROID RAZR, and a DROID Bionic (replacing the X line).

The droid X line was huge until the droid X 2. No more Bionics please. Focus on a droid slider and a droid RAZR....one a year and knock our socks off. Drop the X AND the bionic.

The DROID 4, DROID RAZR, and DROID RAZR Maxx are all high-end phones. They could position the X or Bionic as their budget model (instead of making products like the Citrus).

I wouldn't mind seeing a DROID Pro 2 either, just for that form-factor.
