I have had my galaxy s 3 for about 2 months now. I switch from the iPhone which was only enjoyable after jailbreaking, but jailbreaking was a pain in the neck. I now have the Nexus 7 I got as a gift but the NFC feature does not work from the Galaxy s3. I cannot move pictures from my phone to my tablet unless I use Bluetooth or another type of transfer. I really want to utilize the NFC technology but I guess until AT&T upgrades that software to jelly bean I will not be able to.

If I root my samsung galaxy s3 will I lose any options or features? Could I still install the apex launcher or what I even need to if I root the phone? I am Not sure that I even know what touchwiz offers me or if I use any of those features. If my main goal is to transfer pictures or video from my phone to my new tablet what routing in upgrading to jelly bean be the solution

Mate if you havent read about what rooting is and by the sounds of just scanning your thread, you dont need root.
Install Apex, youll love it. It doesnt get rid of touchwiz, its just a custom homescreen so lets u do more n make it prettyer.
Personaly i recomend Nova Prime if you have the money, same idea :)

I could be wrong, as I do not own an S3, but I thought AT&T did already upgrade to Jelly Bean? It was a Kies update, not over the air (OTA). Go to the Samsung support website to download and install the Samsung Kies software.

Sounds like you want to use android beam. If you root and go cm10 way you should be able to use this but the beam technology Samsung has baked in only works with other Samsung phones

Isn't S-Beam specifically for sharing content between Samsung devices? I've literally used it once with a work friend so I'm not well versed.

If anything I'd assume the issue is with the Nexus 7, rooting your Samsung Galaxy SIII won't really do much (rooting doesn't do anything unless you use root apps, you won't magically get new features, tools, or better battery life just by rooting).

Perhaps there's a third party NFC file transfer app you can install on both devices. Try searching the Play Store or ask the Nexus 7 board.

Galaxy SIII - Thanks Appreciated!

Normal Android uses Bluetooth for file transfer using Android Beam, while Samsung's version uses Wifi direct (if I remember correctly from way back at the S3's launch).

I haven't been home but finally upgraded last night, thanks! I kept getting battery errors and had to hard wipe my phone but other than that it was smooth. Thanks

:

Android bean worked great two way once I upgrade to jelly bean.

I am going to start reading about rooting... These last 5-6 days using Nexus 7 and being used to a clean OS is great. Everytime I go through apps on SG3 I get annoyed with all the Samsung and ATT bloatware.
