Is SG3 the perfect phone?

TouchWiz on it, so it's useless to me. TouchWiz is seriously worse than even Motorola's Customization (what I've seen on my roomate's Bionic, at least) and it's no competition for Sense 3.6 or 4.

TW goes beyond the launcher. The TW-customized apps also look pretty bad to what's on Motorola devices or Sense 3.6/4.0 devices. The People App, Stock Email Client, and Messaging app look absolutely terrible compared to those others. Phones aren't cheap off-contract, contracts are 2 years. I have to look at this thing maybe 6 hours cumulative over the average day. TW is too ugly to bear :-(

So they have awesome hardware in/on the phone, in a cheap plastic shell and one of the worst skinning jobs ever running on top of ICS on that phone... It's far from perfect, IMO. HTC now has screens that are at least on par, and HTC has better camera hardware in their phone. The GS3 is still catching up to older HTC models IRT camera hardware, IMO.

I agree AOSP is boring. I prefer Sense devices or Motorola's newer Skin since it tends to get out of the way more than all the others, IMO, while still having a pretty attractive UI in the most used apps on the phone (Dialer, SMS/MMS Client, Email Client, Browser, Contacts App, etc.). TouchWiz fails hard there, and it doesn't even add much value to the device, IMO.

HTC really dropped the ball not putting at least an SD Card slot in the One Series, though (other than the One V), so I might still give this consideration at the end of the day, if I feel my hand is forced. I still have like 22 days to bring back my new phone and swap it out if I want :P 16GB on a One X simply isn't acceptable to me. It's not enough.

EDIT: Did Samsung seriously not put a Notification LED on their phone again? If that's the case it's truly out of consideration.

N8ter yes there is an LED. Its just hidden. Very stylish.

Seems like you are very much in love with HTC.

Yea.....my perfect phone would have to have Moto radios, antennas. Then:

At least 4.3" phone, screen
Amoled screen
3000 mAh battery
Dedicated camera button.
The jury's out on on screen buttons...I didnt use my G Nex that much in that way to really know. I miss the hardware ones on my Droid X1. Too many accidental presses on capacitive ones. I dont remember any accidental presses on my G Nex...but I also didnt install any games on it.
Removable storage and battery.
At least 32GB storage on board
At least 2GB ram
Cpu/gpu......depends on which had the best battery life. At this point pure performance isnt gonna be that big of a difference or noticeable IMO. Shocked to see the Quad core Exynos beating out the Tegra 3 and that 5th core. Guess that 5th core only helps with stand by times or tasks that dont really use the cpu/gpu that much. Cuz my PS Vita has amazing stand by times. I havent used it in about a week and it looks like its still at around 80%.

Give me better battery life vs. better benchmarks. Thats all I can think of right now for specs...

Is the GS3 the perfect phone? Like its been mentioned...the perfect phone will never be made. I agree the GS2 set the bar for perfection or close to perfection.....but even then...vs. the Atrix...the Atrix had Webtop and those nice docks. That alone says the GS2 wasnt perfect. I know ppl that used those docks liked the Atrix more just for Webtop. Some ppl like phones based on specs, benchmarks, other like em based on accessories, extras, features.

That would be an amazing phone. How much are you willing to pay for it? How much do you think is a reasonable price for it when it first enters the market?

Yes, HTC has taken to doing that on their phones.

I don't love HTC, I just think HTC has a much better sense of Aesthetics in their software than Samsung, who almost doesn't seem to care. I really don't care who makes the phone. With Verizon's 4GB data plan promotion I'd probably have snagged a cheap Bionic if it didn't have that terrible Pen-Tile screen.

Many of the Stock Apps in TouchWiz 3 were ugly as hell, and some are almost exactly the same in TouchWiz 5.

An ugly PHONE, I can deal with. That's what Otterboxes are for - to hide the external aesthetics. Unfortunately they don't make those for crappy stock apps and I prefer not to load up 3rd party Dialer/SMS/eMail/Browser/Launcher to make the software experience any better. That's pretty much a requirement on TouchWiz devices for me, otherwise I wouldn't keep the device past the third day, nevermind 30...

My main problem with their devices is TouchWiz. It's simply a showstopper for me :P It feels half baked and stagnant. Almost as if Samsung doesn't G.A.F. and are just trying to overload specs to woo in customers. Using a TouchWiz phone feels like using a top of the line AlienWare computer with Windows 2000 on it.

My iPhone 4 screen is a bit brighter and the whites are whiter. Nevertheless I do not see a glaring difference between the Apple retina display and the GS3 as far as sharpness is concerned. I would strongly prefer the speaker located in front or on an edge like the bottom, like the iPhone but that would require a remodeling of it's dated shell. Battery life could be better.
Just purchased a bigger battery here:
Amazon.com: Hyperion Samsung Galaxy S3 4200mAh Extended Battery + Pebble Blue Back Cover (Compatible with Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300, AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 Samsung i747, Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 Samsung i535, T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 Samsung
And it's companion protective case here:
Amazon.com: Hyperion Samsung Galaxy S3 Extended Battery HoneyComb TPU Case -Black: Cell Phones & Accessories
I don't mind a thicker body; for me it's better than a phone with a dead battery and I've carried my iPhone 4 in a Mophie battery case.
So since I have hopefully solved my battery problem it's just about screen quality and speaker location, but these are not huge faults at all.
I just migrated over from the Apple side but the more time I spend with the GS3 the more I like it and do not think I will be returning it for an iPhone 5.

The GS3 is almost perfect hardware-wise, but its more the software that isnt perfect:
- Faster updates
- Better applications (ex. FULL MS Office, FULL Music Studio program, etc.)
- Compatible with both Mac and PC
- Better wireless syncing with PC and Mac
- Less crashing
...If the software side was on point, the GS3 would be perfect

Sorry iPhone users, but I can personally say that the gs3 screen is much brighter. Battery problems? Try stopping apps that are running in the background or turning down the brightness on your phone. With constant use and proper app monitoring my phone gets a day and a half of battery life. Iphone users at my highschool get maybe five hours before their phone hits below 20%. It's a dependable phone and mine hasn't had a single issue. My carrier is Verizon. For my needs and expectations, I'd consider it to be perfect for me at this moment in time. However, the galaxy nexus is a really great phone too.

not to mention what the new nexus(') will be like :)

Sorry you misunderstood heatherrunkel; I never compared the iPhone battery life to the GS3. I simply stated that it could be improved upon because I want better battery life. I do stop apps from running in the backround but I will not sacrifice brightness and endure a dim screen unless it is in a dark enough environment. I am happy with the solution I found in a bigger battery and trust once it arrives it will work well. I had the same problem with the iPhone 4 as I said before; I bought a battery case for it.

I did however compare screen brightness and since I have both and can plainly see the difference as well as other reviewers, so I stand by what I say.
Interesting excerpts here:
"Highlighting the test results is the iPhone 5′s record-setting contrast rating — directly correlating with increased visibility in bright lighting conditions. The iPhone 5′s score of 121 bested the iPhone 4′s 77 and crushed the S3′s range of 45-57.
Soneira blames the S3′s power management for its low scores in both contrast and brightness. That sounds like something that could be remedied with a software or ROM update. However, Samsung needs to work harder on power management as its OLED display tests as being about half as power efficient as the LCD in the iPhone 5."

So Samsung "could" be sacrificing lower brightness for better battery life. Not sure.
The excerpt was from here:
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs. iPhone 5 display shoot-out: Apple wins again | ExtremeTech

"The two devices have different tech in regards to their displays. Apple has the Retina display and Samsung have gone for the Super AMOLED screen. The latter has blacks that are much deeper and colours that have vibrancy. Some people though prefer the natural look that the iPhone 5 offers as well as the higher brightness levels"

Should I just keep googling unbiased reviews over and over or should I not believe my own eyes and believe you? NOT. It's too obvious. Can you give me some reviews to prove otherwise as far as brightness is concerned?

I know that if I had never mentioned I owned an iPhone 4 I would have been a good Android fanboy and accepted as such. All I can say is WOW... I am simply giving my honest opinion of what I see and I reiterate that I am really liking the SG3, whereas I previously considered trading it back in for an iPhone 5. It's just a matter of getting used to Android. I also see you are a noob to this thread as well as I so I know how that goes.

By the way here is one on iPhone 5's battery life compared to the SG3 as well as brightness
"And here’s what it found when looking at the Galaxy S3′s 4.8-inch panel:
[…]here are the Highlights: the Brightness is about half of the iPhone 5 due to power limits from the lower power efficiency of OLEDs and concerns regarding premature OLED aging. The Color Gamut is not only much larger than the Standard Color Gamut, which leads to distorted and exaggerated colors, but the Color Gamut is quite lopsided, with Green being a lot more saturated than Red or Blue, which adds a Green color caste to many images. Samsung has not bothered to correct or calibrate their display colors to bring them into closer agreement with the Standard sRGB / Rec.709 Color Gamut, so many images appear over saturated and gaudy. Running Time on battery is less than the iPhone 5 due to the lower power efficiency of OLEDs, even given that the Galaxy S3 has a much larger battery capacity and much lower Brightness."

The above excerpt was found on an Android website.

Begone! Physical buttons! :) Also.. an improvement the UI interface please.. touchwiz is very.. cluttered. Should be something similar to what the Galaxy Nexus has. Much cleaner and minimal.

see i dont like on-screen buttons.. they seem like a waste until we can have true edge to edge displays.
i love the capacitive buttons on the s3, my thumbs use them without having to tell them to but never by accident.
what ill never understand is the physical home button!
is there any good technical reason why its not capacative??
my Decalgirl skin had to be pulled off the home button and now its like a big white chin sticking out of a sexy black carbon fibre face lol :banghead:

No its not perfect. But in terms of overall looks, performance and features its the best in my book;). Things I would like for the next upgrade besides the obvious better internal hardware :
1) Super amoled+ screen.
2) Better software connectivity. (Kies is just godawful:-$).
3) Way better mic and speaker.

Not perfect but it sure takes a dump on my previous htc touch pro 2

I used to use physical buttons, and then I found button savior
