Is Sprint losing its signal strength lately?

Perhaps this is a stupid question. How do you know if you are running 1g or 3g? you can be on a 3g network and be running 1g speeds if the network is congested and bandwidth sux.

Running on the latest SyndicateROM, I find myself being forced into 1X, and 3G during random periods, where 4g doesn't even work. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one having these problems. Could it be the network getting overloaded with the amount of 4G phones on the market now?

I too am running ACS Frozen 1.1.1 but after the latest update i flashed the EE03 Modem, before i was using EC05.
I find the EE03 modem is working better for me.
Just a though. Also you can try to re-flash your existing modem and see if that helps.

I am running SRF 1.1.1 with the EC05 modem and my data connection has really gotten bad. Most of the time I have 1x connection and sometimes none at all. I am assuming this has nothing to do with SRF so I may give the EE03 modem a whirl. Has Sprint's coverage really gotten this bad? I live in the western suburbs of Chicago so you would think they would have the major metro area covered!

Well I was thinkin' about flashing the EB13 modem but now you guys mention the EE03. Which should I try?

EB13 modem seems better off than the EC05 modem. In terms of 4g access people are getting better reports using the EE03 modem.

You can flash whichever modem you like, I've heard of people even still using the leaked version of DK28 Froyo modem from back in December and having good success..

A word from my local Sprint repair tech...

I was at Sprint yesterday and my local repair tech while he's not a big talker but really seems to know his stuff when it comes to tear downs and repairs, responded to my question about Sprints signal quality lately...

I asked him if he's received many complaints lately about signal being poor and 3g being horrible? He told me from what he's been told is Sprint is replacing/changing (not eliminating) the Nextel 2 way communication with a different system and in return changes have been ongoing in the computer system and also towers to accommodate these changes. Thus in return signals have been good and bad as these changes go on and is supposed to be completed sometime in July. He inquired about this himself because he was getting a flood of different Sprint devices into the shop with complaints about poor signal and decided to check into the cause behind it.

So take it for what its worth, it does sound somewhat plausible and he's been a fairly quiet guy for the couple years I've been going to him but when he does speak it usually seems to pan out.

Also keep in mind the article that was recently released that says Sprint might be going in with an LTE group to upgrade exisitng sprint stuff with LTE compatible equpment while the other company is adding LTE stuff to towers for their use. Similar to what Clear is doing with WiMax. This other company will be offering LTE services to carriers as overflow.
Since they are adding equiment Sprint is making arangements for them to upgrade Sprints stuff as well.

Here is the original article i am refering to. Sprint LTE possible

Exactly... I don't think Sprint is leaving us hanging out to dry with poor signal coverage.. This is an unfortunate period I believe while Sprint is in the middle of changes that should in the long term be better for all Sprint customers.

@ Paul, I agree with you. However, Sprint should tell its cuostumers about these improvements because I have heard that a lot of people are leaving Sprint. A lot of costumers don't know about Network Vision. Sprint does not comunicate very well with its costumers. Everyone knows comunication is the foundation of a healthy relationship. :)

Yes it would be nice to receive an email or letter with a bill or anything. However, sprint has until my contract us up to improve or I'm leaving. Phone works well where I live but I drive atleast 700 miles a week throughout NJ,NY,and PA. I have noticed a difference. Not happy about it.

here in Texas in the RGV signals good most of the time at least in my city but i went to visit a friend at san benito, tx which is about 20 miles away. while there my phone would go from 4 or 5 bars to no signal at all i thought sprint had interrupted the service so i reset the phone and got signal back. same thing happens to my friend when hes in my town. is it cuz they were activated in different cities.

Sprint, please work on your network.

I got a Verizon Droid Pro to test out for work and wow ther network always reliabley gets 1meg down.
I know testing them side by side is not a good comparison be cause they are 2 seperate networks. BUT everybody is talking about how slow the network is getting.

I have been fighting with sprint about this since the first of May. Every tech gives me a different time table on when the problem will be fixed. The last tech told me August may be the earliest that I would see improvements. I have been calling every time I get a bill and demanding they credit half my bill since I am only getting half my service and they have for the last two billing cycles. I would suggest you all do the same thing until they fix the problem

Good idea. However you would likely be taking the money they need to fix the problem. If everyone asked for a discount on there bill.

Come on now do you make a habit of overpaying for things. Do you really think the CEO and shareholders are going to invest the extra money they get out of us back into the network? Its going straight to the bottom line to make there dividends larger. When Sprint cut the national roaming agreement their shares jumped in value. Not because they were investing in their network but because they were not spending that money and the customers were still paying the same price.Sprint was one of the largest Companies to enter the cell phone market 16 years ago and they have always done only what it takes to get by.

I have a lot of problems with Sprint signal. I read a good article at Nexus S 4g about Sprint. Do you have any comments regarding this problem? I would like to hear from you your opinions.
I live in Tucson, AZ and yes Sprint has been losing signal out here. I drive by the Congress Rd. exit off of I-10 and my calls drop and I go down to 0% signal for a mile or two. Previously I would have 4-5 bars in that area. This has been going on for about 2 weeks and it is pretty consistent. I haven't really thought much about the dropped calls because my work phone is a Nextel and that drops calls everywhere...NEVER GET A NEXTEL PHONE they suck.

I'm in SW Florida, and have been having issues since March. I know it'sa 4g, but hell I'd atleast like to have servise period!!

I can go hours without any service, then sometimes no 3g with only 1-2 bars. I have alot of dropped calls, or times my wife says she has called numerous times but I didn't answer. I've had 3 soft resets, and 2 hard resets by the techs...still the piss poor signal.

I have to turn off or go into airplane mode to sometimes get service on my phone...other times it makes an abrupt stop agians the side of my barn for the phone to work agian (if anything the phone is tough).

I have been *****in' at sprint every month...and on thursday I told them I refuse to pay them any longer for a phone I can't use !!!

Go into your settings, then battery usage. If your time with out signal is 50% then you still have the original 2.1 launch bug.

To get around this anytime you power cycle your device. Go into airplane mode for about 30 seconds then disable airplane mode.
This fixed that problem for myself and most other people untill later releases..
