Sprint sees more profit in the 3D.

Thats not it at all.
You are talking about 2 different markets.
The Photon and the Xprt are being sold as business phones and targeted to the business market.
Motorola is becoming the business phone provider for Sprint

The 3D phone is targeted to the entertainment market

Now as far as not marketing it.
The target audience has even been given the opportunity to get the phone early

I tend to agree with marketing of the two phones. The e3d is targeted towards the much younger crowd, say under 25 while the photon is more towards the 25-30 range. That's just my opinion.

I think the real proof will be after the official introduction of the phone on 31 July. Until then, you can't really fault Sprint for not promoting the phone. If they continue to "hide" it after it is really available, it would be pretty weird.

How can you not fault Sprint for not promoting the phone before it comes out? Can you fault record companies and film studios for not promoting albums and movies before the come out?

Sprint is promoting the phone. They are just promoting it to Business users.
I have had Sprint for over 10 years. I have been contacted as well as other long time Sprint users that I know. The I.T. people on my job have been contacted so I believe that most companies have also.
The pre release of the phone is to all targeted users

I was responding to someone saying they're not. To be honest though, its very short sited of Sprint to just promote it as a business phone. Very short sited

Anyone realize it says coming July 24th
No, it says very clearly on that page "Coming July 31". You are being misled by the calendar in the pictures of the phone. I will grant you it was dumb for them to use two different dates.

I think what the problem is , is that once you describe it as a business phone. That means it has to stay secure and can not be open to rooting. Once a backdoor of any type is put into the phone , then it is no longer secure. The goal of the Photon and the XPRT is to take on the Rim phones aka Blackberrys.
Sprint is going after the 30% of the market that is controlled by Rim. That is actually sound business sense. Understand that Sprint is also coming out with 2 other new phones that are close to the Photon in performance. There is the Galaxy S2 and the Iphone .

For people who want to root a phone the Galaxy S2 is the better choice
The Iphone is an Iphone.
That is not to say one couldnt use the Photon for entertainment unrooted.
It's just not the target audience

Sprint has decided that Motorola will be there business phone manufacturer.
In a lot of ways Motorola is taking the place of Palm for Sprint.
Sprint is finally giving us dedicated business users an upgrade path to the android os

Sprint isn't going after RIM. That would be silly. They are offering an alternative. But why offer a powerhouse like the Photon as a business phone? At the very least offer another Motorola phone with the same specs for personal use. I would also be very surprised if it doesnt get rooted. It'll happen.

Also, no matter what people are saying, neither the GSII, nor the iphone are confirmed for sprint

Curious, if you turn off your geek switch, all of us in this forum have it on, what's better about the Photon over the EVO 3G?

For the EVO, the list is easy:

-EVO brand
-3D
-HTC Sense (imagine the user actually using the phone at the store)

Lol, wow that is top 10 narrow minded post. The three reasons you listed for the e3d being better were going to be my first three reasons the photon is better.

Lmao! The EVO brand? How is that better than anything? It's a selling point, a tag line. It has nothing to do with the actual phone. Hell, looking at HTC's quality control and all the hardware problems with the EVO, that could be a plus for the Photon.

Again, 3D? No 3D makes the Photon more attractive.

Sense may be better than MotoBlur, or whatever it is, but its nothing special, and a resource hog. Keep it away from me.

How about some pluses for the Photon?
-Motorola build quality. Their phones are TANKS
-No 3D
-Accessories like docks that usually release with the phone
-Kickstand
-No ridiculous camera pod
-A better looking design, imo, than the slabs known as the EVO

How is no 3D a plus for the Photon when you can totally ignore the feature on the Evo 3D? Evo 3D has docks out as well. And the camera and design, are your personal preference, hardly facts. I am interested in the photon but I am not a big fan of the design.

I said imo when it came to the design. Yes, the 3d has docks, I was more making a reference to HTC's tendency to announce accessories and then take 6 months to release them, like the EVO docks, or scrap them entirely, like the 3d case.

I realize you can ignore 3d, but then what's the point? I'd just rather not have it on there at all. You can ignore feature on other things too, that doesn't mean you want them there to ignore to begin with. Its like a car salesman trying to talk you into a car with a sunroof. I know I can ignore it, but I don't want it there at all.

When its all said and done, I decided against the 3d for more than a few reasons, and won't be getting the Photon either. If I had to get one of the two, it would be the Photon. Since neither can currently do anything better than my Nexus, I'll wait until there's a phone that's an actual upgrade.
