Is Sprint planning to come out with a 2.2 fix anytime soon?

I hope so. And I hope they bring it out quick. My patience is waring thin. Very thin. Has anyone started a lawsuit against Samsung and Sprint? It seems like a win. Now only if I had the balls to do it.

Just follow the directions in this thread http://forum.androidcentral.com/epic-4g-rooting-roms-hacks/63130-froyo-eb13-pre-rooted-deodexed-clockwork-rfs-ext4.html and you will be running EB13 in about 5 minutes. I am not having any problems with it at all.

i totally agree with this whole mess. i tell everybody i know to come to android central and to stay away from carrier "idoits" (tho there are some people who work for carriers that actually know what they are talking about)

for instance i walked into a verizon store to check out the xoom and the guy there didn't even know it was out yet and this was two days after its release.

another example: i was in a sprint store with my parents months ago helping them decide on android phones and almost sold two evos to another couple that was there shopping. i knew more about the phones then the reps did which is really sad. i know most people on this site look learn there phone for fun and these guys are getting paid to do it and they have no clue. really is sad

Bottom line they are "sales reps" if they can produce sales, that is all that matters... As long as they have a reasonable idea of what they are selling the in the store and have the sales pitch then they are doing as expected for the job they were hired for.

froyo 2.2 update zip file wanted

Ah ok, yeah we downloaded the update.zip file from samsung's website back on feb. 23rd. I still have the zip file so maybe I'll just use that to update my phone when I get it.

I'm not sure who is at fault for the lazy support the Epic has seen but I really wish it would get better soon. The phone is amazing, just needs the carrier and manufacture to support it....

Any chance of getting the update.zip file from you? I'm in the same situation.

I hope the release a fix soon. I did the update.zip the day that it came out and had no problems, but it seems like the phone is starting to develop the problems with Froyo over time. I have had more FCs in the last week than in the last 6 months. My Bluetooth has also started to act up.

Wiping data fixed all fc, bt and wifi issues for me. Lost my text and call logs, but oh well.

If I move my apps to the SD, and do a hard reset on the phone. Will my "saved" data be on the SD card (ie angry birds levels, and other stuff)?

Coming from a Sprint employee...

It all depends on who you speak with. I dont feed my customers bull...I let them know the truth and if I dont know or if something hasnt been OFFICIALLY put out there I let them know that as well. To be honest...reading various blogs and forums will inform our customers to a point beyond what Sprint does. I'm honestly not sure why people come to Sprint reps thinking we know ANYTHING more than has been said on the internet. Sprint is VERY hush-hush about their internal on-goings.
If Sprint is a revolver and their service is Russian roulette, you're the bullet. Most other reps are empty chambers.

In other words, there's about a 1 in 6 chance you can get a knowledgeable, no BS Rep at Sprint (or pretty much any other corporation).

Yeah, its on my computer at work. I'll post it up on monday.

As far as Sprints in-store employees, I believe their are two types. At the Sprint store I went to in Overland park, the building is divided into 2 big rooms, the sales room, full of sales people, and then another room is like a waiting room and has the sprint techs.

When I first came in I was greeted by a sales person. 9 times out of 10 these people have know idea about updates. They just want to sell you a phone. Doesnt matter what phone, either. I started talking to her more about the updates and she suggested I go and talk to one of the techs in the other room. The tech I talked to seemed a lot more knowledgeable yet it does seem like Sprint keeps their updates pretty tight. Either the tech really doesnt know or they know enough and are not allowed to talk to the public about it.

Either way, its disappointing that this phone is not better supported by sprint or samsung. Thank goodness to the great rom developers that really push this phone to its true potential.

If EB13 is still "floating around", any idea where I can find it?

With a Google phone.... Google should be your friend :)
There are plenty of sites that have the normal update.zip for people running plain stock DI18... Google "epic eb13 update zip" for example...

I personally don't recommemd that way and prefer to start from a clean slate ..

I found and downloaded the Epic4G_FroyoUpgrade_EB13_Tool.exe and ran it. Upgrade was successful, but it wiped my Epic, so now I have to set it back up and download my previous 3rd party apps. At least it isn't a brick :)

@all, for those who are looking for the follow I am currently uploading them to the servers right now.

- Manual "update.zip" method for Official Froyo EB13 using stock recovery.

- Manual Windows Installer version of Official Froyo EB13.

We already have the Odin version available for you and the two mentioned above will be available shortly in the first post of the thread below.

These were my personal files I downloaded on release day and saved, they were NOT taken from any other sites/forums on the internet.

Sprint's Samsung Epic 4g Official Froyo EB13 [Official Update Pulled!!]

who doesn't want to use odin lol. That should be official update software imo.

The entire Odin process is rather inconvenient & intimidating compared to downloading update.zip and booting in recovery. Odin only seems quick & easy probably because you've done it before...perhaps even quite a few times.

This is what scares me about considering the Epic. I don't want any problems and I'm not interested in rooting my phone. I just like to have an Android device with a physical slide out keyboard that works out of the box. The Epic doesn't seem to be that phone. If they are able to figure the issues out, it will still be one of the best phones on the market that has a physical keyboard. I like Sprint's plans and I like that their tv services come with the unlimited data plan, but it seems like the only device I would be interested in (Epic) has the most problems.

Well it's not like the phone is worthless with 2.1...

I agree though that being a slave to Odin is no way to live.

Yeah, Sprint reps suck. I took my Epic in and asked some questions about my magnetic compass. He said the Epic doesn't have a compass. I said, "I guess you don't know much about this phone then". He said, "I'm a second tier level technician and I have taken the Epic completely apart to board level and there is no magnetic compass in it". I just thought to myself, okay this guy is full of it. He probably wouldn't know what a compass even looked like.

@mrclean697 I would not say they suck...
When I took my Epic for ummm "boot problems" that may or might not have been from my tinkering... I was in the back room and they had some disassembled phones but yet they knew nothing about the phone. They know what they know just like most jobs.. I never expect too much.. Way I see it works out because I can get my phone replaced on the spot by pretending to know less than they know lol..
