My first gen moto x has gone to **** after the lollipop update. I really like the Camera on the moto G and its battery life. I don't game on my phone at all. I only use social media, fantasy sports apps, and Spotify. Would this be sufficient enough for my usage?

Depends... was it sufficient on your old model? Then it will probably be OK. But just like I can drive a Cruze or a Camaro to work, both will get me from point A to B, but which one would you prefer, and are you willing to drop the extra cash if you prefer the higher end model. TBH, I think the extra GB of ram is worth it, because I swap tasks all the time and with 2GB it can keep many more tasks in RAM and they switch out much quicker, with only 1GB it is a known issue that only a few running apps will force background apps to close. The storage is less of an issue since once Marshmallow hits, you can make the card appear to be an extension of internal storage.

It is good enough. I have one to use when I need better battery life during the day. It's nothing amazing, except for the battery life. It will work for what you want to do.

No, don't even bother with the 8/1 gb. While the 8/1 gb phone is a decent phone, the 16/2 gb phone is just great. Believe me, the 2 gb of ram is just perfect and makes the Moto G very fast.
1 gb of ram in phones would be for people who only does text and calling. Facebook app alone eats all your ram so the extra ram is necessary for some apps. You won't regret getting the 16/2. If you can afford it, pay the extra $40.

I watched a video on YouTube about it not too long ago. Can't seem to be able to post the link, but the title is "Moto G 3rd Generation 2GB VS 1GB - Which is Fastest?" Seems like it holds up fairly well. I'm also thinking of getting a Moto G, except there doesn't seem to be a 16 GB model easily available in my area.

Honest truth, I have the 8GB model and use it everyday with zero issues. Multiple apps open, streaming music, pics, etc. Does it all with relative ease. The occasional hickup with screen rotation but otherwise no problems. To compare, I own the Moto X Pure (2015) and side by side I see no difference browsing forums like this one or doing normal daily things like text, call, and email. Storage is the worst part. I can't put all my Moto X apps on here but maybe that's not a bad thing. Once 6.0 hits our devices I'm sure the 32GB card I have in the Moto G will be the primary storage.

Edit: the battery life is FANTASTIC. that alone is the primary reason I use it as a daily over the Moto X.

Hey I currently have moto x pure 16gb and I thinking about downgrading to moto g 16gb. How's the moto g 2015 battery life compared to moto x pure?

It's far better then the Moto X. Probably because it uses less power and doesn't use that awesome screen. I'd say you can easily bank another 5-7 hours over the Moto X.

Exactly this. I came from a VZW 2nd Gen Moto X to an unlocked 3rd Gen G and I have yet to see any performance issues. Unless you play graphic heavy/big games, you should be fine with the 1GB/8GB model. However, if the price difference means nothing to you, than the extra ram won't hurt.

Absolutely! Native apps to SD is flawless and battery life is outstanding. I can get 2 full days if I use mine conservatively.

I think the real question is how important is it to you to save $40. If money is very tight, and you are already stretching the budget to get the 8/1 model then get it, and be happy with it. On the other hand if an extra $40 is not that big a deal get the 16/2 model. Android runs much better with 2 gigs of ram, and with the space requirements of modern apps the extra storage will come in handy. Once Marshmallow hits though you can use the SD card as internal storage, so the space issue will disappear. Keep in mind though that using your SD card in this fashion will put extra strain on it, and its lifespan will be shorter.

I have the 1 gig version as a backup phone. Main phone is galaxy s6 . Not a heavy user and not once did the moto g slowed down . Once it got official cm I rooted and installed cm12 and I love it even more now . I always switch between s6 and moto g .
