Is the 5G models worth considering now in 2020?

so its been showing up that the S20 Ultra will indeed come in a LTE Version. (i am assuming this model will not come with the SD chip and will only have the Exynos, so it is a plus for people who live in areas where 5G is no where ready yet, to still be able to have such a great phone. my only concern though is i read some places that the phones with the SnapDragon chips perform better than those with the Exynos chip.
but i am happy to know that if i had the cash to spend big i could get a 4G version of the top end of the S20 line.

T-Mobile is really the only carrier I see as worth spending more on a 5G phone. Their 5G is pretty far along. Even if it's low band 5G, there are still some advantages. I wouldn't bother with worrying about mmwave yet though.

Co-signed.

If you look at Verizons Map.
Unless you are down near the outside of downtown in Mid Town.
Or Montrose.
And a couple of other places.
And this is where the rich people live.
You are not gonna be able to get on 5G.

And with Verizon building one wave of 5G, At&t building another..and tmobile another.
Are you gonna be locked into carriers ?
The government needs to come in and set the standards.
Seems everybody wants to lock you in to them.
That would be BS.

If the price of 5 g needs to be more expensive.
The heck with it.

The government shouldn't give the carriers any breaks on building 5G.

Let the Chinese come in and build 5G.
They already have it.

5 G has been talked about for a few yrs now.
Carriers has done nothing but drag their feet.

The carriers want all the money.
They get to sell new 5 g phones.

But they are always the ones who are behind on everything.

With 6 million people in Houston.
There is no excuse for being behind.
Especially when they can put the cell sites on top of telephone poles.

Being a tmobile customer the 5G for me will be a winner. Their system isn't as fast as most but much faster then what we have now. I live in a rural area and have their 5G so a no brainer for me.

5G is everywhere with T-Mobile, but it's the 600MHz band. But I agree, 5G right now is kind of worthless. In a year from now, it may be great. I'm irritated that they're using the 5G modems to justify the price hikes. I won't be purchasing an S20, at least not on day 1 if I do decide. I'm looking more forward to the Note 11 (or 20 if they're keeping the same naming scheme). And I won't buy that on day 1 either because we all know Samsung reduces the price 2 months later.

It depends if you go the trade in route or not. You get a great trade in if you preorder and almost 1/2 as much after launch. For example, I got 700 for my Note 10+ on the preorder for the S20 Ultra. Now if i wanted to get a z flip instead (which is no longer pre-order) the trade in value on the Note 10+ is only 440. So sure they may drop the price a hundred or two, but trade in value is less. But if you don't go the trade in route, then yeah waiting might be best for you. I'm sure it will be the same for the new Note.

The s20 are all 5g but the Ultra has better 5g range then the regular s20 if your thinking about s20.

I been hearing in a yr from now , what, 2 1/2 yrs.

So the T-Mobile model won’t also support sprints mid band? I only read it will support mm wave and low band of carriers.

It will support the mid bands as OnePlus 7t pro 5G McLaren supports both low and mid bands when it comes to 5g. it is has not been announced yet that it will support me advance because the merger has not truly been finalized yet. I'm sure they will announce it when it is truly finalized.

If you live/work in an area that already have fair good 5G coverage then fine, if not then forget about it for another year.
I got my Note 10 plus 5G because it was supposed to be right outside my door but plans changed and they stopped 2 miles up the road LOL
I'll be in the next part of their rollout so I could easily have waited until the Note 11/20 getting a 5G version

There is no 4G version, they all have 5G and it's the excuse they are using for the price hikes.

Well the price for the ultra is only 100 more than the Samsung Galaxy S 10 5g. Which nobody bought or really talks about. If you put it in perspective that way prices really do line up. Even though they could have waited one or even two for full 5g line up. I think people are going to keep this phone a little longer than they would due to its a tad bit future proof

Let me ask you this, what are you downloading and do you have a true unlimited plan? I can stream 4k video on my 4G no problem. Explain why you need more speed? Especially if you don't have a true unlimited plan you will just hit your monthly data limit quicker? Is that the goal? Explain why being able to stream 4k video on 4G isn't fast enough and what do you need more speed for.

I've asked similar questions. Stream 8K maybe? To that I would say not needed to begin with unless you like standing 5 feet in front of a theater screen. Lol.

If you buy a unlocked 5G phone at Best Buy.
Then it will work on all carriers 5G, Right @

It'll depend on the phone. The S20's are the first that will work on all carriers different 5G implementations, but soon enough most flagships will.

I haven't compared plans myself, but I seem to remember that at least some carriers require you to pay a premium for 5G service if the phone was 5G capable, regardless if you wanted the 5G service or if it was even available to you yet (meaning paying extra for literally nothing).

Would like to find out where you heard that.

I was at Verizon a few months ago.
They said there would be no charge for 5G

guess I will have to wait till
verizon gets some 5G service up and running
