is the battery life really that bad?

Takes a week or two for the battery to come into its own. For your phone have the 5.0.1 update? That made a difference for many people with the battery.

Week old nexus6 user here. Usage seems tad weaker than S5s but sitll decent enough. Also seems to be better with each passing charge and with me getting used to the device.
So far can't really complain .

My normal is around 36 or so, but talking to one of our ambassadors we should note that I have two daily drivers - one for work and one for personal use. This means a lot of my work is offloaded to my moto x and the nexus is mostly hangouts, YouTube, google play music and stuff like that. My x only gets around 24 going from 100% to 20-25%. The nexus is far better battery life.
