Is the battery life really this bad?

when i 1st got the phone (about 3 weeks ago) i was getting 12-16 hr days with barely using it. just texts and that was it. after getting some apps in and playing or using them, i now have to charge the phone while at work...it sucks that the battery dies fast but i still love the phone

I've seen a few people on this forum say that the battery gets better after a little use, and I have to say this is true in my case. I'm not into the rooting and kernels and all that, I just throw down apps and games, so I haven't done anything that really alters power usage other than go through the settings. But right when I got it, it would drop 40-60% overnight, now it's maybe 25%. I think the batter just needs a little use and it just keeps its charge a little better.

And as others have said, this phone is a total beast, it just does so much, is powerful with the duo core and big awesome screen, it's just going to use power. Yeah, my Ipod can go 2 weeks without a recharge.....but what's it do?

On the normal battery mine sucks. I can maybe get 8 hours if I'm careful.

On the extended battery I average between 10 and 12 hours.

It's not the phone, it's 4g. It absolutely sucks your battery dry, regardless of what device you have. I suspect it will remain that way for the next year or two, until one of the manufacturers figures out a better way to build the radio. Looks like Qualcomm is going to do it, but no time soon.

To get the best life, switch to 3g only (CDMA mode) and you'll run from waking up to going to bed. Most people have wifi at home and work, so most of your day will have data speeds as fast or faster than 4g anyway.

My issue is if I leave in CDMA mode and hit a weak spot and lose the 3G I get all grey bars and can only do phone calls, no data, but if I leave in the 4G mode I always have some sort of signal to get my data to the phone. At times I wished I stayed with my BB, it had a great battery life!

Is battery life really this bad.....

Depends on what you do on your phone. Make alot of calls?

AnandTech - Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX Review - 1.8x The Battery

Calculate the total battery life of the recent Verizon LTE phones and you will see its not just LTE. Talk time battery life is usually an indicator of overall battery life. BUT....LTE does play a huge part across the board for all LTE phones.

Granted the G Nex on this list might still have launch software. Its something to think about tho. The Rezound might surprise some ppl too.

So I did pretty much what everyone said to do. I deactivated 1 core, underclocked, blocked Facebook and Google+ turned off. I also turned off Wi-fi so this was 4g all night long.

Much better than what I was getting yesterday but I do get a crazy good signal at my house.

I'll keep my phone for a couple more days to see how I like it. I did buy an extended battery yesterday but I won't open it up unless I decide to keep my phone.

Thanks everyone for your help!

Im confused why everybody thinks the battery life is so bad?

Its all relative..

Its like saying your mustang GT is slow compared to a Ferrari...
Or your F250 is a gas guzzler compared to an S10...

our phone isnt a BB or an Iphone on 3g.. Its a dualcore, massive screen, screaming fast (when the data works :) ) 4G phone... What other 4G phone gets better battery life then ours? Obviously the MAXX, but its got a huge battery on it...

Under normal use it seems like the average person gets 10-18 hrs on the extended 2100 battery, which I think is pretty good... especially compared to most 4G phones.. (cough, hack, thunderbolt)
If you dont get that much under normal use, then you need to look into some of the ideas on this forum about managing your battery, keeping apps in check, etc...
(excluding those whos battery dies due to poor reception, cant really help with that one)

I easily get 12-16hrs with about 1.5-2 hrs of screen on time, and Im running completely stock...
Cant wait for the OTA... maybe Ill start averaging 20hrs :)

Sorry for the Rant, but it just seems like every other post has someone complaining about the battery life, which is actually pretty good for what the phone does...

I'm now past battery life and am focusing on the horrible speeds I'm getting at work. At my desk which is right next to a window I'm getting Sprint like speeds from both 3g and 4g but at home I get amazing speeds.

I seem to be getting right around .29Mbps down on 3g and 8ish Mbps on 4g while at home I kid you not I'm getting in the 50's down with 4g and 6-7ish down with 3g.

try axiom crossbreed. honestly, i havent had a better, smoother experience on any phone. love the battery life expecially with franco's kernal

I've been getting pretty good battery life after about a week after buying it. I also turn off NFC since I hardly ever use it. I also turn off most of my Google syncs such as Reader, Music, Photos. I only leave on email and calendar sync since those are the ones I use the most. I manually sync the others on a need to use basis. It works for me.

I got the extended battery yesterday, and today after one full charge has been draining at about 6% an hour with 20 minutes of Temple Run, 1hr 20 min screen time, a few phone calls, and pretty much all services allowed to sync.

I'm at 23% tonight after 13.5 hours on battery, including all day on 4G, 2 hours of listening to podcasts, a half hour of Navigation, an hour long phone call, 10 TXTs, one camera shot, and beautiful widgets sucking up 13% of usage just to get the latest weather.

GOOD ENOUGH

This was today. Pretty sad. (And this was with the extended battery) When I took this it was at 2%. This was only a moderate day as well.

Another app for saving battery (along with a ton of other useful things) is Tasker. Mine is set to switch to 3g when the screen is off, then turn on 4g when the screen is on. That way I get to use 4g without having to think about it, but I'm not sucking 4g battery when I'm not using the phone. Email and everything still syncs on 3g when the screen is off. The only downside is the 8-10 second delay it takes the phone to switch from 3g to 4g. I'm hoping that will get better with 4.0.5!
