Is the camera any better?

The 100x Super space galactic universal zoom is a total gimmick. The quality is garbage. I think they should have spent that R&D on improving the actual sensor quality and software processing instead ridiculous zoom lengths that are basically worthless.

To be fair, according to reviews the zoom quality up to 10x is very good considering it’s not 100% optical (only 5x optical I think). The sensor size has increased massively as well, and that’s going to cause a noticeable quality upgrade, especially in low light.

I'm not concerned one bit about the negativity towards the S20s this early in the game and what I've seen so far looks good to me.

My biggest issue with Samsung camera is taking photo’s of kids and pets or anything moving. They are the worst in the business. Pixel and IPhone seem to do the best, but for some reason Samsung ignores this issue.

What i want to know is, All these reviewers take these perfect easy shota, but NO ONE ever takes a shot of moving subjects, It’s almost like they act like we don’t have kids or pets... DUMB

I take amazing pet pics on my Note 9.

Exactly! I've ended up returning the S10+ and Note 10+ for this very reason.

I never noticed this as much on the 2018 models, jumped out and hit me in the face when I started using the S10 a year or so ago.
Yeah, the Note 9 is garbage for pets and kids too. If the person who said it's good used a Pixel they'd see the massive difference in detail and dynamic range.

I currently have iPhone 11 Pro, and thinking about switching to S20 Ultra mainly for camera and big screen. Would that be a wise decision considering my iPhone is only 4 months old?

Another interesting and slightly damming review which confirms my suspicions. Extract below....

‘...Technically, that should result in brighter shots with less noise, but whether it's due to Samsung's algorithms or something else in the processing, the images just aren't very crisp no matter what resolution you're shooting at. Ultimately, the S20 Ultra's pictures are a minor improvement, at best, over the S10's.’

Full review.

I'm gonna take that review with a heavy grain of salt, clearly not done by someone with much photography or videography knowledge outside of using auto modes on a smart phone.

Refers to 10x zoom as creepy which has been available in smaller cameras for a couple decades. Bashes 8k and calls it useless when it has the same negatives 4k has had for years. Doesn't touch pro mode or RAW shooting.

I realize he's looking at it in a way a number of average consumers would, but I find little value in his review.

People that haven't used the pixel don't understand how well it grabs detailed moving images.

My s20 ultra will be delivered tomorrow.. a little skeptical.

Moving image from my S10 and I can guarantee you that the guy who is one of the fastest motocross racers on the planet is moving multiple times faster than your puppy is. ;)

My problem with Samsungs camera mostly pertains to video and unnatural processing in lower light... Outdoors in sunlight it's a beast but indoors low light...meh.

I hear ya..if I snap 30 photos of my dogs in the yard running around with my Pixel 4xl in portrait mode... about 95%of the photos are amazing

Any Samsung of recent past not so much..here's hoping though. Trust mr...I want to ditch the pixel for something that does a little more. I also hate the photograph processing lag with the Pixel 4XL. It's very true that if you snap five or more photos in a row with your pixel in rapid succession you will be waiting for them to process before you are able to snap more photos... That's a bummer. ??????

jus did a search on gsmarena after reading up on OIS/EIS/HIS and to my surprise came across 2 old school phones, 1 Samsung K Zoom and 2 Samsung S4 Zoom. 20 mp and 16 mp respectively. these phones basically had camera lens on them. it was a hybrid build of a phone and a camera. if this could have been done back then, why can something similar and more advanced be done now. (besides for the fact of the physical design) instead of giving people the gimmick of hybrid or digital zoom, when we really want OIS and for me, hardware OIS. or a nice balance of both.

I still don't understand why it's so difficult to find camera reviews that include indoor shots of things that are not perfectly still, like kids and dogs.

My guess is because these are Samsung provided review units. They pick and choose who gets these pre-release phones to review. Must be nice for Samsung to pick you. Would be nice if Samsung picks you the next time too. Notice some people like Droid-Life don't get pre-release phones all the time and they have mentioned that at times too.
