Is the camera any better?

Food for thought just in case anyone thinks high megapixel count is the end all be all.

The new $6,500 Canon EOS-1D X Mark III DSLR camera is only...wait for it...wait, wait, wait some more... 20.1 MP.

You can take great pictures with a 6MP DSLR. We have to keep in mind that with a DSLR you can get away with less Megapixels because of other factors not inherent to a smart device.

True, but that DSLR doesn't merge 9 pixels into one or utilize all of the extra pixels for enhanced zoom. That Canon is also lower MP than most other DSLRs because it's a sports/action oriented camera that needs maximum frame rate and ISO performance. Two very different image sensors designed for very different needs.

Pro and Semi pro equipment is a different animal. Good glass and large sensors are a big factor that you just can't get with a smart phone.

Which pictures are you looking at?

There's an Imgur Gallery link to 108MP photos the dog pic looks like it came from any other Samsung device. Even the the photo of the dog with the merged megapixels don't look great either. I'm going to have to wait and see for myself when I get my device from work. But so far it's not looking promising.

I opened that but didn't see much...I'll have to go back

Looka like Samsung hasn't improved their image processing. From the photos of the dog pics even the full 108MP photos have no details and Samsung still trying to smooth out too much details. What a shame. Going to see what other reviews have to say about the camera quality.

This is my big hangup as well. Details are typically so soft - especially when shooting animals. And if they move even one mm...forget it. The shot is completely ruined. My note 10+'s camera is great in many respects but fails pretty badly in others. I find my iphone 11 pro max to be very consistent and better than the note. It's a shame samsung still hasn't managed to get skin tones right...selfies just look awful. I'd rather them address their color science than cram more and more pixels into their phones. The hardware is great - image processing not so much. It really is a bummer

Agree, I also rely on my iPhone 11Pro or my Pixel 4 for photos over my Note10+.

Hoping the camera software is better than S10 plus. I had to use Google camera apk. The Google camera is amazing with the S10 plus camera. I doubt though for the s20 ultra camera they'll have a compatible Google camera apk anytime soon.

I feel my Note 8 takes very good pictures on average and can take REALLY good pics at times when the circumstances are optimum... lighting indoors is just right, etc... so when I'm by myself and taking a pic I have no issues using my Note.

But if I am with family and wanting to take a "moment shot" that I really want the best chance of capturing, I can't help but want to tell my daughter or wife to take the shot with their iPhone XS and iPhone 11 Pro because over the last two years if I compare pics taken with our phones, they will consistently have, in my opinion, the better shot than mine under varying lighting situations that mine. Once in a while I'll get an Oooo, that was a nice one but the conditions have to be really good... usually outdoors in perfect lighting.

Exactly, I feel like Samsung hasn't improved their processing since the S7. I'm not saying the iPhone 11Pro and Pixel 4 are super great quality in less ideal conditions but they are definitely more consistent and more reliable.

Sad thing is many reviews of the S10 really liked the camera so I’m not sure they properly test it. Smudged detail and total uselessness if anything moves even a little seems to go over most reviewers heads.

That's the thing...most reviewers I've seen just haphazardly snap pics here and there with no real regard for anything other than snapping a pic. I'd absolutely love to see professional photographers review smartphone cameras. And, no...not the Moment guys lol

All I want to know if S20 can take pictures of moving subjects as good as Pixel. And I am talking about small S20, ain't paying 400 extra for Ultra

I'm going to guess and say no it wont be as good as Pixel for moving objects.

Just played with an Ultra at BB... Anyone else?? Just spent a few minutes but from those few minutes... IMO the 100x if completely useless in an indoor situation. Even in a big warehouse as BB trying to capture anything across the building... looked terrible... grainy/blurry/no detail at all. Only only only.. maybe... useful outdoors. Some may say might be useful taking a pic at distant in a concert indoors.. but I'm thinking it's going to constantly try and focus or measure the light and shadows and keep on adjusting that it won't be able to take great shots all the time.

Just like I saw the rep at the S20 display with an Ultra... she had the Ultra on a small tabletop tripod to show of the camera. You'll need a tripod for any decent shot.

Of course those are just my thoughts playing with it for a few minutes in a BB. But if I were there looking to buy at the moment, the 100x didn't impress me to want to drop $1400.

The 10x impressed me. Wished they could have dropped the 10X in the 20+... I'd go with that setup in the slightly smaller dimension.
