Is the camera any better?

Just played with an Ultra at BB... Anyone else?? Just spent a few minutes but from those few minutes... IMO the 100x if completely useless in an indoor situation. Even in a big warehouse as BB trying to capture anything across the building... looked terrible... grainy/blurry/no detail at all. Only only only.. maybe... useful outdoors. Some may say might be useful taking a pic at distant in a concert indoors.. but I'm thinking it's going to constantly try and focus or measure the light and shadows and keep on adjusting that it won't be able to take great shots all the time.

Just like I saw the rep at the S20 display with an Ultra... she had the Ultra on a small tabletop tripod to show of the camera. You'll need a tripod for any decent shot.

Of course those are just my thoughts playing with it for a few minutes in a BB. But if I were there looking to buy at the moment, the 100x didn't impress me to want to drop $1400.

The 10x impressed me. Wished they could have dropped the 10X in the 20+... I'd go with that setup in the slightly smaller dimension.
Keep in mind there are hardly any situations where you need a 100X zoom indoors and if you do you need pro equipment.

Excited reading the specs and talk online... But you definitely realize that when you get a chance to really try it out indoors. Just Useless. Outdoors maybe... but we're talking taking a picture of something like... a distant mountain... or planet ;) But I suspect that most of your shots would be too grainy or blurry.

10x optical... definitely liked that. And if I went further... 30x max for me was my limit of usabilty. But we'll have to see when real owners get some real time on it.

Was never interested in the 100x in the Ultra. More interested in how it utilizes the higher megapixels. If joining megapixels outputs better quality.

There is a review on foriegn YouTube channel, guy said camera on S20+ is pretty bad and he hopes it's not final software release. Washed out images in all cameras and front camera is just bad

Yikes. Was thinking about going Plus instead after seeing the cloud blue unboxing. It's beautiful. Was going to snag the cloud blue galaxy buds + too.

That's the thing...most reviewers I've seen just haphazardly snap pics here and there with no real regard for anything other than snapping a pic. I'd absolutely love to see professional photographers review smartphone cameras. And, no...not the Moment guys lol

Low light photos by reviewers are always a dimly lit photo of a collectible on a desk, a coffee mug or a drink glass at a bar. Never of moving objects, kids or animals. Most pics in reviews are sunlit parks and city scapes. Don’t really tell the true story.

The title sounded so positive... the actual article sounds... meh.

So many attempts at praise.. Then so many “buts” and little walk backs afterwards or hidden meanings in some. Like the title... “Samungs best photos ever”... (whisper) just don’t compare them to other brands. Anyone else get that vibe??

But pretty much matches my thoughts about some comments I made the in the demo post... up to 10x very good... maybe comfortably feel useable up to 30x. After 30... crapshoot.

Best I can gather from all the reviews and leaks along with specs.

Pure image quality probably won't surpass the Pixel when shooting auto, or in night mode. Google has managed superior processing no one else has matched.

Shooting RAW I'd imagine the S20 Ultra should have the advantage, larger image sensor and none of the processing or AI involved creating the jpeg. Manual should be a solid improvement for the first time since the S7. My S7-Note9 all offer nearly identical shots in RAW.

Zoom it has a clear advantage. Obviously the 100x zoom isn't great but for a long time phones had a useless 10x zoom. Quality 10x zoom in a smart phone is impressive and it does manage that.

Video should be another advantage for the S20 Ultra, larger image sensor should cut down on noise. Right now that is one place cell phones are really lacking compared to larger cameras and computational photography has yet to resolve it.

Wish I could get my hands on one just to play with for a few days.

Exactly spot on

Not quite sure why a gigantic company cannot surpass Pixel 1 2 3 and 4 with brand new 2020 phone that clearly has better hardware. I am hoping images are about the same as Pixel and much better then S10, otherwise I'll either cancel preorder or test it myself and return. As I said here before, my Note 10 is just useless in many cases, I am forced to grab Pixel 4

Not sure who the larger company is as a whole but Samsung is more of hardware company and Google is more of a software company. With how massive Google is it doesn't surprise me they have the best AI, machine learning, or computational photography.

My thoughts exactly. Also, Google has the advantage of building a camera experience around a phone. It's one of their main focuses. Samsung choses to be everything to everyone, jack of all trades, in order to appeal to the masses. Two different philosophys.

I have pre-ordered the 20+ but am watching the camera reviews with interest. If I get the sense that processing issues from the 10 remain then I will cancel.

The one year old P30 Pro looks like an amazing bargain right now even the older Mate 20 Pro is IMO a better camera phone than the S10 line.

Hoping the camera software is better than S10 plus. I had to use Google camera apk. The Google camera is amazing with the S10 plus camera. I doubt though for the s20 ultra camera they'll have a compatible Google camera apk anytime soon.
I have struggled to get the camera apk to work on my S10+. Had to remove it. Where did you get your camera apk from?

I’m sorry, but how about you actually wait for the phone to come out before judging it so harshly? These early reviews, especially YouTube ones aren’t always to be trusted. I for one am certain that the S20 (Ultra) will take better photos than the Pixel 4.

And let’s not forget that these are smartphones, not DSLRs. As a phone, the S20 devices are very likely to blow the Pixel 4 out of the water in every respect (higher refresh display actually works, much better/bigger battery life, better design etc).

I don't think its hard to make moving subjects not blurry and details not to be washed out. There isn't that much magic here. And Google as a software company sure has ton of bugs in Pixel phones, camera is the only thing they got right
I am talking about S10 here.....but already saw 2 pretty respected reviews and both said the same thing about s20.....fingers crossed

Never been disappointed at all with my note camera. Can't say I have noticed much difference between it and any pixel I have had.
