Is the camera any better?

Wow, you guys are really that easy to influence? Rejecting deliveries based on some photos? Obviously people can do what they want, but I'm shocked.

Its not about being influenced .It seems to be the same old story with Samsung cameras. If a $1400 phone cant take a decent pic of a moving object on the first shot the way a pixel or iPhone can then its pointless to carry around. Even though there may be other amazing features on the phone. Obviously ill try it for myself but its disappointing so far to see some of the reviews in the real world.

I am keeping my delivery if my phone ever ships, but this is a bit concerning to me as well. Wonder if he has received the first camera update yet also. I believe these issue will get better, the question is how much they will improve with future software updates.

Thats what bothers me. My wife has this issue on her note 10 + and that hasn't been fixed yet. It a frustrating camera sometimes amazing sometimes horrible. There's no consistency. I figured the ultra would fix all this but it doesn't seem that way so far. I guess I'll know for sure when I test one for myself

I hear you guys. I'm gonna personally test it for myself and form my own opinions. I don't have kids, but we have 2 dogs. I currently have a Note 10+ and I've never once told myself "I should get rid of this phone because of the camera". I rarely take pics of them running around. I use video for that. Most of my pics of them is when they are "posing".

Oh well, everyone uses their phones differently and that's the beauty of having choices on the Android platform. One thing I know for sure... I would never get a Pixel just for the camera. I dislike almost everything else about those phones, so they aren't an option for me.

Good luck to everyone, I look forward to some cool pics in this thread!

On the note Do u keep the motion photo option on? I noticed that made a big difference when i enabled that on my wifes phone.

Company as big as Samsung, too bad they just didn't bring a company like Leica in and have them tune their cameras, slap on the Leica name and come out with a better product like Huawei did with their phones. All the reviewers saying "Nice pictures with the 'normal Samsung Processing' we are use to"... kinda gets old.

Or maybe we have aggregated enough data to make an informed decision and would rather hold off than spend $1400 on something that doesn't fit the criteria we want it for.

The one with live focus seems to be much sharper. The other photo was straight auto, this is a pretty dark place but it's pretty soft and not really in focus in the face.

I've been messing with the camera for the last hour and I'm sorry to say but the camera isn't better than my S10 plus. With my S10 plus the camera out of the box wasnt great either so I downloaded the Google camera apk and it brought the camera to life. So much crisper images with the Google camera apk. S20 ultra has the same over smoothed images as before. Going to try to download the same Google apk to see if it works better. Shouldn't have to do that with a new phone that's selling point is the camera... also a sidenote not related, but the phone is much thicker than the S10 plus. I was shocked at the difference.

This is the ultra vs my note 10 plus. The autofocus is slow to focus as been reported. I think that can be fixed. This photo near the top of the bottle is out of focus, not sure issues like these can be fixed by software. It may just be this way due to the larger sensor. There is more to the phone than just the camera, but I don't really want a step back and more money out vs the note 10. Samsung better put out a good update over the next two weeks or they will have a lot of returned units.

From what I've seen there's a slight improvement but still typical Samsung style.
Wouldn't surprise me if the processing is still crappy in average to low light indoors. Always blurring fine details together of normal photos . To the point they're murky.

In the two photos look at the top pic at the light highlight on the leather chair that the bottle is sitting in. In the top pic all you see is the light highlight, but in the bottom pic you can see the grain from the leather in the highlight and below that you can see well defined stichng and shadow detail in the stiching.

This really appears to be a mess for the big selling point of this phone, the great camera. I'll wait until my S20+ gets here to test for myself but if this is what the camera is producing it will be going right back to Samsung. I might keep it for 12 days or so to see if an update gets OTA'ed right away but I'm not keeping it and "hoping" that a camera fix is underway. For this kind of money they needed to get it right from the get go.

Yea most of these photos are very underwhelming. They're gonna have a flood of devices coming back.

Imagine mixing the Ultra camera with the google camera apk! Going to be awesome.

Yea real awesome to not be able to use the zoom lens or all the framerate options while filming. Zooming while filming with Gcam is horrendous! Albeit, white balance and everything else is better but losing the use of the zoom sensor isn't worth it.

I'm like really on the fence with just refusing delivery and sending the Ultra back tomorrow. Have any of you guys with the ultra tried video recording yet? Better mics/sound etc.?

May I ask a stupid question? Why do the 2 lower grade S20 models get the superior dual pixel auto focus whilst the heavily camera promoted S20 Ultra gets the lesser phase detect auto focus? Is it a technical difficulty to implement dual pixel auto focus on a 108 MP sensor whilst the other S20 models only have 12 MP sensors? Bearing in mind both models have high MP telephoto cameras as well.
