Is the G3 VS985 rootable on Marshmallow?

I have a Verizon G3 with the newest Marshmallow update on it already. I don't think it is rootable via the traditional methods.

What would be the best way to even try to root this? Should I downgrade it to Lollipop first?

Downgrade to 10a Kit Kat using the tot method and root it using stump. Then install a bumped version of twrp custom recovery. Then flash a rooted 47a Rom using twrp.
