Is the Google Voice app still needed?

Now that Hangouts Dailer is available, is the Google Voice app still needed? I used to use my Google Voice number for everything, but now I use my cell phone number for all my calls / text. I just use my Google Voice number as a backup. From everything I can tell, I can safely remove Google Voice and still have my phone ring if someone calls my Google Voice number. I just wanted to make sure I am not overlooking anything.

I think Google wants to slowly fade out google voice. You should be fine with just hangouts

Ditto. That's all I use it for now as well. They don't seem to promote the service either... I'm afraid they'll probably drop support for it soon.

Only number anyone knows from me is my G Voice number. I like the service and love the idea of it being my only number. Will be a sad day if Google retires the service.
