Is the HTC 10 worth buying now for 200$?

Hello everyone and happy new year.
As I need a new phone, I got my eyes on the Nokia 6.1 because it ticks the price/value box pretty well as I can get it for 180$ for the 32/3GB version. Thing is, I came across a deal on the HTC 10 for 200$. I know it's pretty old now, but comparing the specs of the two I think the chipset in the 10 still performs better and the camera should give better photos. Plus it's really the perfect size for me and, well, that CHAMFER! On the other hand, the 6.1 has the allure of Android One with clean and up to date OS. So do you think I should put my nostalgia aside? Or should I go for it?

I have the HTC 10 and it is still capable but depends on what you expect from it. I have pushed mine to the bleeding edge and it shows.

So my advice is as long as the battery is good and you don't update the os and try not to update the apps as well unless you really have to then it should perform really well.

My phone was running well with 2016/17 apps but then I messed it up by updating all the apps on Google Play to 2018/19 versions and it slowed down my phone. I think this is an indication that the phone is unable to keep up with all the newer app versions. Anyways I rolled back as many apps as I could to the 2016 versions and it was better performance wise.

The battery would be a big issue for me after 2+ years I'd it's the original one. I have my original 10 still as a backup and music player, and it's still mostly usable aside from a battery that drains VERY quickly now. For $200, you can't really go wrong... but if a battery replacement cost is high or even an option, that could play a role in any decision I make.

Ive just picked one up today for £120 BNIB.. only thing missing was the charge brick, but I had a spare from my old dead U11..

Couple of things:

Its now obsolete, so no more HTC OS updates, but HTC are now part of Google, so you still get a few HTC app updates on Play store..

OS build is now fixed at: Android 8.0.0 …. 3.16.401.2.. December 2017 (WWE), however, theres a huge ROM modding communitee over on XDA... as, like the Nexus 6P, the HTC 10 is still regarded as one of the greatest phones ever made..

If your buying pre-owned, Check the screen for burn-in (yellow patches in the corners), even though its LCD, some people have reported strange patches on a white background, Check speakers haven't been played so loud, they distort.. and play around with it a little.. check for battery drain and make sure it doesn't get too hot.. Under 6 MM and 7 Nought, the 10 did get hot sometimes, but under 8 O... its fine, although it still gets warm...

Sunshine are still charging £25 / $25 to have S-OFF and unlocked, so if you want Unbranded make sure its a factory unlocked Rom... WWE is always a 401, so it reads.... x.xx.401.x, cant speak for US builds..

Make sure you do a full factory / cache wipe through recovery.. bfore setting up as your own..


Im very lucky, I grabbed this and im going to be using it as my Daily for next 6months or so... and as long as you don't install anything strange or weird from Play Store.. and Just be aware of what apps your installing.. you should be just fine with regards security...

After all, some phones like LG and Samsung.. are still on 8.0, so the 10 isn't THAT old..

Put it this way.. I swapped an Xperia XZ premium for this.. XZP, terrible inconsistent camera and quiet speakers.. ugh

Iam absolutely stunned by the awesome camera, even in low light.. and the speakers are waayy better than SONY, they are really great, definetly a bargain IMO

Whoah! I don't think you missed anything, huge thanks!
I'm actually buying new so no worries regarding the battery, screen or speaker. Security-wise, I can cover my back pretty well. The Nokia 6.1 entices with it's newest version of Android and its timely updates but I think the hardware of the 10, specifically the cameras and screen, worth the compromise.

Mine had the battery and screen replaced on warranty by CPW a year ago just before the contract was up. Still as good as new. I've made a point of avoiding fast charging, as I think that kills batteries on this phone. Mine still does 2 days of light use. I've been eyeing up a P20 Pro, but the screen res at 1080 width doesn't look as good on text as the old HTC10 with it's SLCD at 1440 width. I think text generally looks worse on OLED anyway. I'm hoping the P30 Pro will have a QHD screen, but it will be silly money. Overall, I'm still perfectly happy with the HTC10, not minding the large bezels top and bottom. I hate curved screens.
