Is the Incredible better then the EVO 4G?

Unreal people.

It's clear that the Incredible is better than the Evo 4g.

Examine the evidence:

1) Evo 4G = 5 letters, while the DROID Incredible = 15 letters. 3x BETTER!

2) Sprint = 6 letters, Verizon = 7 letters... not entirely huge but enough to determine a clear winner.

3) Incredible has sold out in stores already... Evo?! They haven't even sold a unit yet. Clearly the Incredible must be the better option.

You fanboys need to stop whining over how much better your precious EVO is... any way you look at it, the Incredible is a vastly superior device.

It's really hard to escape the crushing grip of your logic, Keith. ;)

To the OP,
Whether or not the EVO is better than incredible is not even a significant question because you can rest assured that within 2 months there will be 2-3 Android devices out that will make both of them look as lame as the G1. The EVO and the Incredible are just the Android flavor of the month. That will surely be changing sooner than later. Android is moving so fast that within a month of ownership your phone will be bettered by another handset.

Clearwire already said two more WiMAX phones are coming by end of year, one of them Android.

HAHAHAHA that was the funniest thing I have read YET today LOL :D

hahaha, that was funny.

As for #3, does selling on Ebay count? :p

All I can say, is that the latest family of phones from HTC (Desire, Incredible, EVO) all have similar traits, but obviously the EVO has the additional screen size, front camera, 720p recording, 4G radio, etc.). So you would think that reviewers would favor the EVO, when comparing HTC apples to HTC apples here.

I've been testing the Incredible for the last few weeks, and the biggest flaws for me are:

- the OLED screen being extremely unusable outdoors (including in my car)
- weak battery life

The biggest plus I see on the Incredible over the EVO, is superior voice/data penetration inside buildings, given Verizon tends to use 850mhz whereas Sprint uses 1900mhz (putting aside the roaming debate for the moment). I'm able to use the Incredible inside more buildings than I've been able to use my Sprint phones.

Although I'm looking forward to the TFT screen, 4G radio for simultaneous voice and data, and all the other goodness on the EVO, the biggest concerns I have about the EVO is in fact 4G: the poor building penetration of WiMax at 2.5GHz, and its battery-sucking WiMax radio chip.

So in the end, it's greatest strength over it's HTC siblings could be its biggest weakness.

Absolutely true. Dont forget Verizon charge more monthly, as some "elder" said, "the more expensive, the better". that means not even the Incredible better than EVO 4G, not even mention iPhone...

I guess I'll play devil's advocate here for the sake of argument. Here are some reasons why one might consider the Incredible better than the EVO (I don't necessarily agree with these, I'm just listing them):

* Size - some people may prefer the smaller dimensions of the Incredible

* AMOLED screen is preferred by some

* Monthly cost - For those who use little to no texting (<250 messages/month), Verizon would only cost $70 or $75 / month depending on which texting option you choose. Sprint+EVO would require $80/month for the Everything Data + Premium Data add-on (yes, I realize you get unlimited texting with Sprint's plan, but to those who don't need it, it's a waste). With the mandatory $10/month fee, Sprint is no longer the cheapest option for everyone.

* Speed - we don't really know the answer to this yet. But it is certainly possible that the EVO in its current state is slower than the Incredible. The processor is the same, but the software is not. We don't really know. For all we know the kernels are quite a bit different because of the WiMax radio support (anyone who has done any Linux kernel development in the embedded world knows that sometimes vendor drivers can force you to switch your kernel base or require you to forward or back-port it). This is yet to be determined, but you guys certainly can't say that there is "no way" that the Incredible is faster. Software matters a lot.

The last thing I'll point out is that a lot of people probably won't care about the advantages that the EVO has over the Incredible:

* WiFi hotspot support: Largely irrelevant to many because not many will pay $30/month for it.

* Screen size: Seen as a disadvantage to some

* 4G/WiMax support: Not many cities have support for this yet. Based on the reviews so far, even 4G cities have spotty coverage (especially indoors). Finally, in many reviews the speeds aren't as high as Sprint is claiming for "typical" performance. Plus, given that 4G is such a huge drain on the battery, many will be forced to only using it occasionally.

* Front camera: A lot of people remain skeptical on video conferencing ever taking off

* HDMI out: This is another one of those features that will excite some users, but leave others scratching their head as to why they would ever really want it

That said, I'll *probably* end up getting the EVO myself, as I have access to a family plan that makes it more affordable. If I were on my own getting an individual plan, I'd likely go for the Incredible.

Obviously Delusion should be taken into account, and some sympathy and pity should be had on the people who claim the Incredible is better than the Evo 4g. I dont have a problem if thats their way of making themselves feel better about spending the same amount of money on that phone, and paying a higher monthly premium to use it.

my answer

Is the Incredible better than the EVO?

Clearly, the answer is No, but the Incredible's network is clearly better.

And before you say, "But Sprint Roams on VZW" .... have you checked the data roaming policies?

You are in for a surprise if your #1 plan is to get your data from VZW's towers.

If you don't plan on roaming VZW for data then you have no worries....

I noticed the reviews were different too...and here's my 2 cents.

The Evo is being reviewed as a 4G phone, and in that sense, 4G is not widely available, it drains the battery faster, and it costs more money. Those things all docked a few points from the phone. Now in my eyes, they SHOULD have just reviewed it as a 3G phone with the CAPABILITY to use 4G, which should add points imo :P

The size allows for a huge screen..but also a huge phone. It's not as slim as the incredible and the form factor, while great, is just a little out of the ordinary and possibly a little bulky/wide for some people.

Those are the two main reasons I see this thing being reviewed less than the incredible.

I already pre-ordered my EVO 4G and Ive been reading reviews for the phone all day. A few websites have been saying that the phone is second only to the incredible. I thought this was the top notch android phone?. Also I read on washington post that the unlimited plan for the EVO is 80 dollars a month plus the mandatory 10 bringing the total to 90 a month plus tax. I thought it was just 69.99 plus the 10 dollars for 4G. Im still very excited for this phone ive had an iphone since the original one came out and Im ready to switch from ATT's terrible service and apples cult following. Im starting to get a little nervous about getting this phone the reviews are kind of worrying me. What do you guys think? Is the Incredible really a better phone?

There's a difference between subjective opinion, and factual evidence (truisms).

Just because someone says, "I think the Incredible is better" doesn't make it a superior phone.

Just because someone says, "The iPhone is the best mobile experience" doesn't make it a truism.

What will make Phone A better than Phone B... is well... if you like it or not. There's tons of comparisons out there for the incredible, evo, and other phones, so I suggest you make your own conclusion.

Apparently, it doesn't matter what people say here. If you read another review that says AT&T is the best, does that mean you'll return your Evo and get an iPhone 4g/hd? Just get what you want, and don't follow what someone says.

I posted this in another thread... stands true here.

It's amazing what people will argue for over opinion based posts, especially at condescending (missing the boat) ones like mine. However, it also puts a good perspective over how human nature works in terms of belief values.

I was thinking the same thing when I read all of the comments on the reviews yesterday. If you really love the EVO/Incredible/Sprint/Verizon/iPhone, etc., then ANYTHING not in line with your thinking is "negative". I actually thought Mossberg did an OK job. I tweeted him to ask if he actually made any phone calls with the EVO and he answered that call quality was fine. He made a good point about the battery. Just wait until the EVO comes out - that is going to be the MAJOR biotch point about the phone on this forum. Just like every other smartphone that comes out! Never fails.

I am personally on the fence between an EVO and the Incredible - mainly for carrier reasons (and honestly, size of the EVO). I can find plenty of reasons for and against both. But neither is going to be perfect - at least not for me.

Up to 300MB/mo before you get into "could be terminated" land for tethering. "Majority of data in given month" or "Majority of minutes" or more than 800 minutes of voice. More than I expected. Yes, surprising that is is that HIGH.

Right. Online forums tend to turn ugly (as well as society). If people really listened to what others said from time to time (a rare trait on forums), then you'd might get some interesting conversation.

I understand why you'd prefer the Incredible over an EVO just as much as you probably understand my preference. This was a special moment between us... I'll cherish forever. Well, at least write about it in my diary tonight.

Ok i dont know why carriers are so stuborn and keep throwing crap into the phone once the manufacturer is done verizon and sprint always add so much useless apps and crap that the only thing is doing is slowing down the phone, at least they should make it optional why i need nascar tv if i dont even like driving..
