Is the Mate 9 still relevant?

I try to keep my phones for at least two years and so far, my android phones never get updates. Is it still worth buying the Mate 9, given it’s available for a very good price? I assume it’ll get Oreo but I doubt it’ll get the next major update? Will Huawei continue to provide security updates for the next two years? I’ve had an LG G4 for two years and I don’t think it’s had an update for over 18 months. Thanks

The phone is still a great phone spec wise. I loved mine. I've read that it got or will get Oreo, but don't expect any future security updates any time soon. Huawei is really good at building high quality hardware, and even better at failing to support them long-term.

I highly doubt that the mate 9 would get security updates for 2 years from today. Even my Nexus 6 wasn't updated that long.

I'd say it's a relevant phone today. However don't bank on Huawei servicing the phone with updates after EMUI 8 and Oreo.
This latest update to Oreo was an unexpected gift in my opinion.
I really don't trust Huawei to back their phone's up with even minimum security patching. This of course is rampant across the board with many phone makers.

It sure would be nice to have quarterly updating from all phone makers, especially companies charging an arm and a leg for their devices...

Huawei Mate 9 is very very relevant today it's a fantastic phone still, I have it and mate 10 pro and still goes toe to toe with the mate 10 Pro

Still haven't had it pushed to me in the U.S. MHA-L29. Guess I'm last in line.
I don't have it yet either MHA-L29 (north Carolina) but I love my mate 9 and will keep using it.
Maybe we will get it soon. It's random too. Two of my friends near me got the update days ago

I got the update today by using firmware finder. The update dated 23/1 is showing as approved for installation. First time I've used FF but when setting up the proxy it simply came up as available in settings and I was able to proceed without any problems

I'm gonna try it tomorrow! Thanks

I'd say most definitely it's still relevant. Ive had mine for over a year and plan to keep mine as my daily driver for at least another year. Maybe the Mate 11 will be a good replacement and affordable enough when it becomes available. We'll see. Son and wife got the Mate 9 for Christmas and I don't see them upgrading to a new phone for at least another year - maybe 2. The Mate 9 is a fine phone and does everything we need it to do.

Amen to that. I have no performance complaints for my Mate 9 but there are some things I'd change if I could.

Totally agree. Also had this phone for almost year (upgraded from Honor 8). The Oreo update has freshened things up and it just does everything well. Battery life is great, camera solid and a number of little things that make using the phone that much better. No performance slow down. It's still a relevant phone.
