Is the multitasking a big issue?

There is no "breaking of code" dude.. they adjusted the minfree settings and the low memory killer.

Stock AOSP is,

8099, 10132, 12165, 14213, 16245, 20295

AT&T HTC One X is,

7746, 9720, 11694, 13742, 15715, 24709

This isn't a code change to the AOSP, or Sense. It's a basic setting that can be changed by anyone with a rooted device.

What the developers for Slacker should do is work around Sense's aggressive memory management. Other apps have, why can't they?

Actually, there's more to it than that because merely changing the min free settings on a rooted phone doesn't solve this. Sense 4.0 does something else, like wipe the cache of the app each time you leave it. On XDA, they are saying that this is part of the kernel, as even the stock ICS roms have this issue on the One X.

I'm hearing reports of people running the minfree app on the market, setting it to 0 or low and it completely fixes the saved state issue(killing apps), but the device lags more because of this..

I like Sense, but as with all my Android devices, I get tired of them eventually and try other things.. once I get tired of Sense, I'll for sure be putting AOKP on it once it's fully working..

What is AOKP?

Seems to be hit or miss. I went to FutureShop and played with a demo model they had there. Open up the notes app and made a new note. Then went back to the home screen, opened up the camera, took a few pictures, then opened up the browser, and went to androidcentral.com, then went into angry birds and killed a few pigs, then back to the home screen. Hit the task switcher button and chose the notes app. It had to refresh the view. Took less than a second to do it. Not a big deal. Then hit the task switcher button again and went back to the browser. Had to reload the androidcentral.com page. I could see how this might be slightly annoying, but not a deal breaker and worth returning the phone for in my opinion. The page reloaded in about 3-4 seconds. Angry birds was where I had left it.

So I don't see the big hub bub about all this. I definitely don't think it's worth returning the phone. And if that's the reason you're doing it, I think you're using it as an excuse.

I was going to make the jump from the iPhone 4 to the HOX last weekend, but due to financial reasons I will have to wait a couple more weeks. Probably a good thing though as Rogers hasn't released the 1.85 update yet AFAIK.

3-4 seconds on a business class WiFi internet connection can easily be 15 seconds in a 2 bar HSPA/HSPA+ coverage area in a brick building/house on the same device.

I I tried exactly this when I had my One X and the device doesn't just lag it completely freezes up. My time with the One X told me that there is no way to to fix the problem unless Sense is removed from the equation.

So let me get this clear it just reloads the page? It doesn't make you start completely over.

What if you had half a page typed on a forum that doesn't support TapaTalk in the browser and you got a call, then when you went back it completely reloaded the page wiping your post out?

That happened to me as well. It depends on how many other apps are active.

The multitasking wasn't an issue when I first got the phone, but by the day it is getting more and more annoying. It doesn't always happen, depending on what I have running at the time, so it is hit and miss with how it annoys me each day.

I like Sense quite a lot, so it is disappointing to have this problem. But I can deal with it, I will eventually move away from Sense in the future when I get bored with it.

Maybe HTC will tweak things with a future update. I'm not sure if that is likely or not, but I am sure it would instantly make many people happy. I would be surprised if there is no leeway with Sense and these minfree values.

Like this never happened on a PC, regardless of the OS or browser version, right?... Not trying to ignore a potential issue, but my point is that, even if potentially annoying, I don?t see how this would justify returning the HOX. Expecting this to never happen on other devices is unrealistic.

Calling has never ever caused a reload for me.

And everyone looking for a true fix better figure fix needs to realize there isn't one without a custom Rom.

I switched to the international version before 8.5 was released, but I highly doubt that update fixed the issue, since the latest international update didn't.

And that would be a pretty boring video, given that you would have to stream anywhere from 2-4 full songs to duplicate the issue.

I'll pick some good music. Still down if you wanna make a cash bet. I love winning money.

The issues aren't annoying when you first get the phone. After a month or 2 and still having to deal with it, it gets old. Especially coming from a phone that never had these issues. I mean, the phone battery is great to me, but this is a big trade off.

One thing about multitasking - you can try a custom ROM. I am running CleanROM 3 Lite right now on my device, and the multitasking is significantly better. I have a bunch of stuff open - and switching around works just like it's supposed to, I don't lose any text that I typed up but didn't send/save. There are stock ICS ROMs (no Sense) that work even better by having a smaller memory footprint. So, an annoying issue on stock devices for sure, but can be tinkered with.

I am more concerned right now about the battery issues people are having right now when using LTE and going through areas that cause signal loss (subways for example) - battery drains very quickly after the device regains signal. Custom ROMs don't seem to fix this, although I have not tried a Sense-free setup yet.

I've had my SG III for two days now and multitasking is working flawlessly. I have opened many apps at a time (more than I would normally have open) and using and returning to others has been a breeze. Nothing has closed while running other apps. So while multitasking problems might not be a problem with some people it is definitely an issue when you compare phones.
