Is the S7 edge screen easily scratched?

Re: Is the S7 edge screen easily scratch?

YES!!

I got the S7 pre-ordered. I upgraded from the S4 (never had any scratches or anything, not from a lack of abuse either). Anyways, I got the S7 on the 8th and it has a big scratch on the screen from only being in my pocket with a bank card. My guess is there was some debris in my pocket and got between the two and got in the perfect position making one deep scratch I can feel with my bare finger. This sucks because I have been waiting on a screen protector to show up and now when I get it there's going to be a big air bubble and make the scratch even more noticeable. The phone is awesome but definitely screen protectors are going to be your best friend.

Apparently, to make Gorilla Glass 4 more shatterproof than Gorilla Glass 3 they had to sacrifice some of the scratch resistance. Poor trade off in my opinion. My S4 never had any scratches in 3 years and I dropped that thing I don't know how many times.
So now neither shatter proof nor scratch proof. I've even seen phones cracked that were dropped in a case.

Wife's S7 edge scratched in 24 hours (and it was a deep scratch). She was very careful with it so not sure how it happened. Needless to say we both got screen protectors on them now.

I've been being very careful of mine because there aren't any good screen protectors out yet and I JUST WENT TO THE BEACH TODAY SO GUESS WHAT I FIND AFTER MY FRIEND PUTS MY PHONE IN HIS POCCCCKKKEEETT. SCRATCHESSSSSSSSSS!!!!! I didn't even know he had it!! Plus+++ I've been having it in my pocket lately. It's only been a week!!! Hopefully something goes defective with this one so I can return it and get a replacement with a new screen... I have extended warranty but it doesn't cover scratches.

got lots of little scratches on mine, and one deep enough to feel with fingernail.
at least this phone is going back for warranty replacement. lol
put a screen protector on this new one, but finding a decent protector is another story.....

Been caseless since it came early from my preorder.
Perfect so far but I do not put this or any phone in my pockets (I know ridiculous). I just know from past experience little particles will cause scratches.
I actually put my phones in one of those eyeglass cleaner type pouches then in my pocket. I have a couple minimal cases on order and am waiting for the zagg glass... Once it's covered I'll not use the pouch.

Sand is a phone screens #1 worst enemy. If you don't have a screen protector I would really not bring it to the beach. It is way too easy to miss one little spec of it and then have that push against something (like your leg / pocket) and it scratch the screen.

To add to what srkmagnus said, something even smaller is much worse - carbide. The particles are so small that they float in the air (at that size, electrostatic forces are FAR stronger than gravity) The problem is that, while sand is about the same hardness as Gorilla Glass, carbide is much harder (the only thing natural that's harder is diamond). So one invisible, "not feelable" particle of carbide on the screen and you have a scratch. A cheap plastic screen protector (the 3/$5 kind) that looks and feels good is probably best. Replacing one a year (and I've had some that last for years without showing any wear or scratches) isn't going to cost much.

I've got a faint scratch on my screen as well. I have no idea what it would be from though. I have an otterbox symmetry case so if it's face down the face isn't actually touching and I don't put anything else in my pocket with my phone. (Habit from scratching a phone before by having a credit card loose in the same pocket.) Luckily it's SUPER faint, can't feel it with my nail. I think if I just get a screen protector the adhesive will fill it making it less visible, I'm just not sure what a good protector would be. (Topic for another thread.)

While this phone looks sexy, the design makes it hard to protect.
I kinda hope the note 6 comes with a flat screen. I love having a tempered screen protector.

Yeah, that's the main issue. Since its not flat there are more angles where you can end up with the screen face against something that will scratch the screen. Never scratched my Nexus 6. This phone scratched within 2 weeks. Unfortunate that such a nice phone will end up being a scratch magnet.

Yes it scratches easy!, 8 days with case and treated it like a baby small swirls everywhere on the curve of the edge and one that was felt with finger nail. Pretty bummed

Idk wat u doin but I'm using thin fit case, no screen protector for a month and zero scratches so far.

I also have zero scratches. No screen protector either. So far so good. Hope I don't jinx myself.

Same here, 1 month and 2 days and nary a scratch. Have a Spigen case and use a lined holster on my belt.

have had mine for about 1.5 months, have several scratches that are light, and non visible in use, but you can see them at an angle on a black screen. Annoying as heck but hasn't impeded the function of the phone at all. Still deciding on the best case to get for it, gonna be a pain no matter which I choose when I want to use it for the Gear VR

I had mine for 2 months since the launch there's no scratches and I don't have any screen protector just a minimalist case. If you never put anything along your cell phone in your pocket, there's no reason to be scratched. Ok sometimes there might be some particles or some dust in your pocket but still. People are complaining about scratches but if you take care of it there shouldn't be any problems. Along their way they did something wrong. I mean on jerryrigeverything's chanel, it takes up to a 6 of hardness to scratch it, that's like a blade or something.

A steel blade is around 4.5-5. A glass shard is about 5.5-6, and sand (silica) is 8

i bought my s7 edge a single month ago. But now I can see many tiny scratches in room light and a single big scratch on the top of it. Gorilla Glass sucks!!! I was going to buy the screen protector but there is no screen protector available right now... Sad...

I have had the S6 Edge, HTC M9 & M8 and Galaxy S4/3 prior to my S7 Edge.

Never had a scratch to date (except once when I dropped a phone and it landed face down with the cover open but that is clearly my fault) as the phones ALWAYS in my pocket on their own and are in a flip case of some type.

With the S7 Edge the screen is like a war zone with numerous scratches that I cannot account for. I will be embarrassed to try and give this phone away when I get a new one as I pride myself on the condition of my used phones but refuse to try and sell them. A good home is just fine.

I think this can be classified as a fault with the phone and I will be taking scratch resistance into account next time around and I have never had to do this before.

SAMSUNG ! Great phone - crap screen. Sort it out.
