The verge review said the screen is brighter than 2XL but some review said the 3XL is not very bright compared to iPhone X or Samsung Galaxy.

My 2XL screen was a little bit brighter then the screen of my 3XL but not by much. Yeah Samsung has brighter screens but I think that this screen is bright enough.

I turn OFF Adaptive Brightness so that I can control how bright I want my screen rather than leaving brightness up to what the phone thinks is bright enough. The default option of Adaptive Brightness is never bright enough for what I want. Adaptive Brightness is the first thing I turn OFF on a new phone.

If I set me brightness to 100% it is bright enough to be uncomfortable to my eyes. With both my 2 XL and 3 XL set to 100% brightness, my 3 XL is quite a bit brighter.

It's not as bright as the Note 9 but I think it gets bright enough for me.

I have the Pixel 3 and don't have a problem with the brightness with the adaptive mode. I will say that if you crank it up on adaptive mode during direct sunlight then it will learn that setting in the future lighting situation.

100% on this is like 65%-70% on the iPhone XS Max (I own both). Probably just as bright as the Pixel 2 XL. Tom's guide says 362 nits on this phone vs 606 for the iPhone and 604 for the Galaxy...

Today I had the phone on my bike mount and I went for a long ride and I had no issue seeing the screen, this was in the bright California sun.

It is not as bright as the Pixel 2 with the exact same settings...I have been comparing the 2 phones and that really stands out...I also think the Pixel 2 XL screen just looks better even with the colors matched...so much for expert opinions...as last year everyone said the display sucked and this year they are saying these displays are great..I am not nitpicky enough to care, but I see what I see...
