Is the Thunderbolt getting close to end of its life?

Ah, I have gotten such a kick out of people thinking that the HTC ADR6430 will replace the Thunderbolt.

The Thunderbolt will not be considered for retirement for another 5-10 months, depending on the continued demand of it. Just in case anyone wanted to know.

If the camera is a key consideration tbolt has the best cell phone camera I've ever used.

Is the Thunderbolt getting close to its end of life? Does it make sense to get it now or should I wait for the replacement? I need to get a new phone by the end of the month. Appreciate any suggestions you guys would have.

Yes, yes and no.

Yes, the TB is done - it's 6 months old. However, if you need a phone by the end of the month, yes, the TB is a pretty good choice....if you can wait a little longer the price will drop some.

No, the TB 'replacement" won't be out at least until next spring -- maybe later, that's not to say there won't be many other phones released between now and then.

Decisions, decisions....... only you can make the call.

You will definitely be able to snag one super cheap once the new phones come out like the HTC Vigor and Nexus Prime. I personal think the Thunderbolt is a great phone. If you like it and the price is right then go for it. Also, LTE is awesome. :-)

At this point I would pass on both the TB and the Bionic and get the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Droid Prime (or whatever its going to be called) or the HTC Vigor/Rezound.

Thanks, Robrecht

Concur on waiting for Prime, especially with this new HTC Sense security debacle.

I have had minor issues and the 2 nd reset fixed it. I don't know tho if the vm has been fixed. They have me voice mail free till fixed

sent from my Thunderbolt....and the thunder rolls !

I must admit the black screen of death issue with bionic turns me off.....but I do love multicolor LED notifiers. Will Nexus have that?

Thunderbolt still has top notch specs. And when it finally gets the gingerbread update, it'll be even better. But to me. Im bored of it. And would like a new device. But if I get the gb update. That might help me hold on for a few more months. But if ur looking for a new device. Wait by the end of October to see if any fones come out.

I've come to the conclusion that the only way a middle income person with an itch to switch every few months is to flash a new rom.

Thunderbolt is still the only phone on VZW that offers simlitanous voice and 3G data. Lots of community developer support. Froyo to GB is an upgrade on its own. Hopefully VM notification gets fixed soon. It is fixed for rooted users and those still on Froyo.

I would say yes the Thunderbolt is at the end of its cycle. Consider all the Thunderbolt is a modified htc evo 4g. Not only was the hardware old when it was released the phone it was based out of has already been replaced?

The Thunderbolt is an awesome phone and I am very happy with it. The Prime has been canceled by Samsung and Verizon for some reason. A friend of mine informed me of this. He was going to get the Prime.
BTW the Thunderbolt is still selling well so no fear.........

The official announcement has been postponed, but the phone has not been canceled.

Thanks, Robrecht

Oh yea, that phone looks amazing.

Yeah, that phone looks amazing now, but a few months after it's release people will be looking to the next amazing phone and advising against buying Vigor. It's a never ending cycle, and the phone makers and cell providers love it.

"Finally" gets the Gingerbread update? Most people already got it - you didn't?

Actually, if you talk to any kernel programmers out there, you'd find out that the EVO has a much older version of the Snapdragon and does not have as much capabilities. The only thing that's the same on the EVO and Thunderbolt is the kickstand, of which I've had EVO owners tell me how envious they are of the Thunderbolt's kickstand.

So if it is "just a modified EVO", then it was modified with newer and better quality everything. Well, except the screen. The screen is still bad.

Although one point your said made me laugh. The classic technology trap: Old hardware. That's an unfair statement in general... even the Bionic has "old hardware" by technology's perspective. Hell, the Vigor has "old hardware" since the Kal-El and new Snapdragon are on the horizon boasting faster performance and better efficiency. The old hardware claim can never be won. Even if you bought the newest hardware available, you are still behind.

I own both phones (work/personal) and I find myself gravitating towards the Thunderbolt over the Bionic.
