Is there a Audio Amp app out there for Android?

I ask this because I know the phone lacks an audio processor a la Cowon MP3 players. Pandora output through my car's speakers via 3.5mm jack is sorely lacking punch and bass. Interestingly, even the iPad subjectively sounds better (and louder) doing the same, as bad as its sound processing is in the first place.

There needs to be a software that runs in the background to process audio output via the headphone jack.

Have you told Pandora to use higher quality audio streams?

From within Pandora - Menu > Preferences > Cell network audio quality = high

I have done that, but if the device itself has a low default output wattage, it's going to always have weak sound, unless a built-in equalizer or something is active in the background to control that, no matter what media application is running.

I did the same test with my home audio system, with a comparison between my HTPC, iPad and the phone each running Pandora. I have to turn the phone volume to max just to hear something (which means crappy output wattage); to experience the same volume of my phone using the iPad, I only have to set it to 1/4-1/2 on the volume scale.

Obviously, the iPad has technically more advanced hardware, but if one were to add sound processing or equalizer to the mix, the sound would be infinitely better than it is.

CM7 has a great built in DSP manager. And there is a native equalizer on the Android Market for 2.3. (which you have to use CM7 for) That does the trick for me. I use my phone as an mp3 player a lot. I use Audiogalaxy to stream my tunes from my PC at home to my phone, and the equalizer app is FANTASTIC!

A native equalizer is exactly it, if you're talking about an app that works as the primary equalizer app for the phone itself. The app you said that is for 2.3, is it Audiogalaxy?

Thanks!

Audiogalaxy is a pretty good service, but even when using HiFi streaming, It doesn't sound great. If you don't have your computer on all the time, it's not very good either. If you leave it on around the clock and don't have great ears, then it will be really good for your purposes. Also, DSP is a pretty brilliant device. Tinker with it for a little bit and you'll see what it can do.

Thanks! Is DSP a device or an app? My understanding is Digital Sound Processor.

I think Audiogalaxy is amazing for how well it works while driving around in my car. Never drops signal and sounds plenty good enough for driving.
