Have you messed with your recovery img,did you try to flash a new recovery.img?

No after installing the new update that's all I did before that I was able to flash any rom I wanted

Okay got some bad news the over the air update was to patch root,you weren't suppose to accept it. From what ive read your going to have try your luck at running the 2.1 official ruu .5 and then root.Im not completely sure that the ruu well run oveer the new update but it worth a try from the thread in this link.

Yeah it should work just fine. It doesn't update hboot. There's quite a few people doing it over at xda

so am i. making the hero stock so i can send it off to the person that bought it today. they wanted to keep root and i really appreciate you helping me out with this brother. and i am keeping up with the ROM progress on the Evo. gonna wait till they get more bugs worked out but i guess i should root my evo in the mean time. first things first. hero.
