Is there a Quick-Charge Certified Car Charger than can keep up w/GPS?

Trying to find a car charger and cable that will charge the phone while GPS is on.

Currently using: Incipio Auto Charger 2.0 Quick Charge

...and an HTC branded coiled charging cable that came with my One M8's HTC branded car charging adapter. (My M8 had no problem charging while the GPS was in use. Bluetooth too.)

It DOES say "charging by AC" when connected but still drops as I drive. No other apps running, not even bluetooth.

Not interested in having the screen dim between directions because I like to see what's coming before the GPS announces it (and I typically run the GPS muted anyway.)

I am also confused by the charging cable comments. I've read the cable has to be "charge only, no data" and also that it DOES need to be a data cable so the phone can identify the "quick" charger. Which is correct?

Help?

TIA!

I don't know about Car Chargers but do you know of any normal quick charge charger that would work well with the HTC One M9?

I have a feeling your issue with a charger not keeping up is heat related. The 2.0 Quick Chargers are intelligent and won't charge a battery to a damaged state. If the phone is hot it won't charge it quickly. I use a Kenu Airframe+ mount on my vent so the AC is essentially chilling the phone. That charger keeps up not only with navigation but also streaming podcasts with PocketCasts at the same time.

Jalan94, thank you for your post, but I don't think that is my problem, though I will check.

I am looking at the Kenu Airframe now, thanks. Where do you have it grip the phone, since the volume and power buttons take up so much space on the side?

Also, which charger are you using?

Actually I think heat may be the problem. I have never gotten past 45 degrees on the phone, normally not even past 40 since the update. Until I hit 49 celcius or 120 Fahrenheit because I was running GPS in my car and my phone wasn't even connected to a charger or it would have been hotter.

How do I check the phone temp? Somewhere in settings?

If this phone can't run GPS and charge it's going back. Still have my M8 right here...

Install GSAM. You will see the real time temperature in the top left.

Here was the screenshot with GPS running. To be fair I also was streaming music as well.

Good lord, 120 degrees!

I live in NJ, only use the A/C in the car a couple months a year. So a vent-cooled option isn't viable for me.

Is there any way to get the phone to run cooler?

The Kenu grips the phone right below the power button and holds it very securely.

The charger I use is Onite 28.5w Dual USB Rapid Car Charger, Quick Charge 2.0 Fast Charg... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008VMP90A...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU4402437

I have the incipio car charger and it works great, you have to use the USB cable that comes with the wall charger. I had the same problem when I would use the HTC car USB cable

Thanks Coppy1974 I had the same result with the cable that came with my M9.

Got this today at the Verizon store:

verizonwireless.com/accessories/verizon-vehicle-charger-with-fast-charge-technology-for-micro-usb/

Absolutely fantastic! Powers the GPS -and- charges ... not crazy fast but I don't care, as long as it's CHARGING. Highly recommended!

Actually have another charger coming in Monday (Anker), we'll see how it compares, one of them will go back.

Let us know how it works out for you, have the exact same question as the OP and I'm sure that my old Motorola car charger is at least part of the issue. Need to purchase something before I have to go on a long road trip.

That's what I need too, but my problem is I also need my phone plugged into my car's USB so that I can use MirrorLink and put the nav on my head unit.
