Is there a replacement camera app that makes the camera better?

I've been using Snap Camera. The image stabilizing feature helps me get better pics. Still not as good as the wife's Note4, but better than the stock camera.

Tried the Snap Camera, just installed the paid version. An awesome app. Like the additional settings Snap Camera provides.It seems it's faster and focus is faster and more clear. I like the additional lighting when you snap a pic in dim light. Also, the different sizes of pics. All around great app.

Shot these in burst mode this morning. My dog is camera shy, so i was trying to catch him before he took off and was in motion as I circled around him to catch him being cute.

I did a quick scan thru the settings and I don't see this option.

I did try this Saturday and the pics were essentially no better than the others I've taken using assorted tactics.

What I realized yesterday, though, is that I had the video setting at 1080 quality. If I'd realized it Saturday, I would have also tried some shots with 4K quality (or whatever the top quality is called). I will give that a try next Saturday. I am not confident it will matter (because nothing I've tried has seemed to make a significant difference), but we'll give it a go.

I did try with the top resolution video setting. The stills I captured that way where marginally better, but not in any meaningful way (only one or maybe two of any use out of a dozen or so I snapped). FYI, overall resolution of these shots is significantly lower than the 21 MP stills.

Bottom line is that it may help a little bit...it seems it does help a little bit...but not enough to overcome the lower light with motion issue well enough to say it's acceptable. It's possible in the other gym where our daughter plays in the winter (bigger windows) maybe this would make more of a difference.

Here's a lighting oddity I noticed this morning in the gym (while shooting stills not via video running). The four windows are high up the walls and all the lights were on. Definitely enough light to capture some decent action shots with a camera that handles those better. The oddity is that it seemed the Turbo's camera did better with me *facing* the high windows than with the windows behind me. Viewing the court and players with the naked eye, they were definitely better lit with the windows behind me, yet the blur was strong on the pics. The shots with the windows in front of me also had a lot of blurry attempts, but the ratio of usable to not seemed better. The ratios are low in either case, so it could just be luck, but even the non-usable shots with windows in front of me were closer to usable than the shots with windows behind.

FYI, I wasn't using HDR (which might make front lit shots better but would also add blur). So, this observation is very counter-intuitive. Maybe this offers a hint to someone as to what the issue may truly be?

This is one of the key questions I have as well. I feel as though there should be a setting somewhere. Hmmm....what if I disabled the built in camera?

Anyone tried the updated Google camera (from 6/3)? Supposed to be quicker but does it improve anything about the Turbo's motion pics? (I'm without my turbo right now and cannot try it).

Doubt it. The camera's shutter can't be improved by an app like that, that's my opinion. I use the camera a lot, no matter which app I use the pics turn out the same.

The M camera on the N6 brought some improvement... Not sure if that will carry to the turbo or not.

Hello, I found that A Better Camera did quite well for my Turbo before I traded it in for an s6. Ultimately they can only do so much to improve it, if you're serious about good photos I'd recommend another phone.

The turbo doesn't technically have a shutter. It's all digital. My old droid x had a shutter. And the way I see it is if you don't like the droid turbos camera, blame it in the software nit the hardware. This same exact model Sony sensor is used in multiple devices. So yes an new app (software) will fix the turbos camera (if you think k it is bad)

That is not necessarily true. It may improve the camera, but it wont absolutely "fix" it. It is a combination of software AND hardware plaguing it. What does it matter if its the same "sony sensor" that others used, there are more factors at play here. It was never a great camera, id hesitate to even call it good. At best, even with improvements, it was "usable" at best for me. To claim its just the software is misleading. If that was the case, every camera could perform as well as a Galaxy s6, LG G4, or iphone 6 with just an update, which is really, really far from the truth. You can only work the the product components. The camera doesnt even have OIS which makes a lot of shots unbearably bad.

So if people really like the Sony imx220 sensor in one phone and not in another then it is a software issue. It's like if you have two different cars with the same drivetrains (hardware) and one is faster, it could be an issue of weight, aerodynamics etc (software in my point). If a couple phones have the same camera sensor and one is better than the other then it is the software differences, which can be upgraded and made better

Again, you are speaking in too wide of terms. Im not arguing the point of who made a "sensor" but there are more issues at play that contributed to the camera being sub par than simply the name "sony" on the sensor. How about aperture, sensor size, white balance, image stabilization, type of autofocus, flash, HDR, etc. Just because one part of the entire process says "sony" it does not mean, in the least, that it will offer the same experience as other cameras. If this is such a simple software issue, why, even after the update, are people still not raving about the camera or how amazing it is? Or why wouldn't Motorola offer a simple patch to just update and fix the camera to make it perfect? It lacks in plenty of areas, the name "sony" on the sensor is the least of the concerns.
