Is there a safe way to get Swype?

So, I know all kinds of people have created swype threads...
BUT
I got a version that said it was the latest beta off of xda but then right after that my phone went haywire and had a virus. Have there been problems with swype leaks (even from what I would assume to be a credible source, like xda)? And are there any safe ways to get it while it's still in closed beta? I realize you can register, I've done that, but I haven't gotten any response.
