Is there a simple screenshot app?

I'm looking for a really simple screenshot app. I don't want a screen recorder to create videos. I don't want to edit the screenshot. I don't want any bells or whistles. I want a VERY SIMPLE app to do NOTHING MORE THAN take a quick snapshot of whatever is on the screen. I have video editing software on my computer if I have a need for editing. If the app happens to offer a choice of full screen or a specific area, fine. Other than that I don't want any other options. Simply a screenshooter. Period. I don't understand why there are so many screenshot apps that include extensive editing capabilities and video screen recorders. I can't find a single app that does NOTHING MORE than do what the name implies - screenshot. This is exactly why I have resisted using a phone and have stuck with my Linux laptops for REAL computing. I do, however, have an occasional need to screenshoot something on my phone, then email it to myself for editing with a REAL photo editing program on my laptop. So, is there such a thing as a SIMPLE screenshot app?

Welcome to Android Central! Is there a reason why the basic screenshot command (usually pressing Power and Vol Down at the same time) wouldn't work for you?

I guess I'm not following you at all. Exactly how I execute the screenshot is irrelevant at this point unless I have a screenshot app installed. So, first things first. Is there a very simple, easy to use, no fills, screenshot app?

You said you only want a screenshot app to take the shot, not to edit it. You don't need an app for that, because it's already a built-in feature of Android. You press and hold Power and Vol Down for about half a second (and depending on the phone, there may be other ways to take a screenshot, like a Quick Settings button). The screenshot gets taken and is saved to the Screenshots directory (usually /Pictures/Screenshots, although Samsung still defaults to /DCIM/Screenshots).

Yeah, there's one built into android. That's what B.Diddy was refering to.

Uninstall any "screenshot apps" you've installed and then press volume down+power buttons simultaneously and there you go, ascreenshot.

And I would go as far as to say the majority of screenshot apps available in the Play Store are likely just vehicles to convey ads, preying on users who aren't completely aware of all of Android's native functions.:-\

You didn't mention what device you have?
Phones today have few different ways to screenshot and ability to screen record

I was going to second this notion. I didn't even think these types of apps existed.

I have a Samsung Galaxy A12 running Android 11. When I hold the volume down and power button, nothing happens. So, forget all that. I'm asking of anyone knows of a simple, easy to use, screenshot ONLY app. That's all I need to know. I just want an app to install and take screenshots.

B Diddy, I agree. Every app I have tried ended up being a monster mess of extra crap I don't need and a whole slew of ads. A few of them had VERY intrusive ads when I tried to use them. I was spending more time getting around the ads than I was in trying to use the app.

I know more than one of you have said that this phone should have a screenshot "app" built-in, but nothing happens when I try holding the volume down and power buttons simultaneously, either for a quick second or for 5 seconds. NOTHING happens. Each time I try it I make sure to go to my files and search for any new images. There just aren't any.

I guess I'll just let it go if nobody can suggest an app I can install to use that doesn't include everything but the kitchen sink. I'll just stay here on my laptop and use the phone for nothing more than phone calls and text messages.

Im sorry i dont have a app to suggest but you have quite a few ways with your Samsung, hey Google take screenshot, edge panel, palm swipe, bixby, buttons mentioned earlier.

Why is a app so important just curious

Should just be a quick press of the volume down and power key like in this video, if you hold them it won't work. I don't think anyone can recommend an app for this since it's been a standard Android feature for as long as I can remember and I've been using Android for over a decade.

There's either some irregularity in the way you're trying to take the screenshot, or there's something wrong with the system (or the buttons). Do you also have this problem when the phone is in Safe Mode? www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062983/

There are steps here on how to use the Palm Swipe feature or Accessibility Assistant menu: https://www.naldotech.com/screenshot-samsung-galaxy-a12/

Well, mustang7757. Since I have NO OTHER way to take a screenshot, I'd say an app would pretty much be a necessity. Wouldn't you? I really don't need or want any remarks like that. All I want is for someone to offer a simple, easy to use, screenshot ONLY app to install and use.

As for the combination of volume down/power button. That does NOTHING.

Next. B. Diddy, I went to "Motions and gestures, just like the instructions say to. I have NO "Palm swipe to capture". It is NOT there. I have these:

1) Lift to wake
2) Double tap to turn on screen
3) Double tap to turn off screen
4) Keep screen on while viewing
5) Alert when phone picked up
6) Turn over to mute
7) Finger sensor gestures

Period. That's it. Nothing else. No Palm swipe to capture.

Jut forget it. This is why I tell people that if they are serious about doing anything digital, they need to be on a real computer, not a tiny digital device that only works part of the time and every person has something a little different than the next person.

Yep. Kill this thread. I'll stick to my laptop. I now have one more reason to suggest people stick to computing on real computing devices.

Hey there, we are trying to help. Please bear in mind that we're all volunteers, and spending our own time to do this. Be respectful.

I will gladly close this thread. Continue this attitude in the future and you won't last much longer on this forum. Review these guidelines: Community Rules & Guidelines - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

I've never had any problems at all with taking a screenshot, so either you're doing something wrong, or your phone (which BTW is a budget device, NOT A FLAGSHIP POWERHOUSE) is glitching. Don't take that out on other people

I've been doing this a long time, and frankly I'm getting tired of this kind of attitude.:-\
