Is there a software reason why the NS4G has low volume?

I ask because the volume is somewhat lower than my Evo with ringtones, notifcations, etc.

But when I was playing a game off gameboid, I actually had to turn the volume down because it was pretty loud.

So that hasme wondering, is it a software reason as to why the volume is low?

Yes and no. I believe is a combination of low volume settings on the speaker drivers and also a smaller speaker size on the Nexus. I installed Volume+ and that has boosted my media volume significantly but has a lesser impact on ringtones and notification volume.

Before you do anything, wait for the Nexus update rumored to happen next Monday, the information released suggests fixes to the volume issue among others.

I installed Volume+ several weeks ago. It has helped some, but I also have a Trident case covering my Nexus

Are you sure, Verde? Several people have noted it and all, but I guess it varies.

At least to my ears and what i have noticed, it has been fine. Nothing i would complain about.

I think we're in the same boat, I have the cyclops case for my phone and I can't hear most of the youtube videos I watch unless the room I'm in is in complete silence.

Ringtones and notifications are hard to hear when the phone is in my pocket. Using the default music app is a little better that I can hear with moderate noise in the room.

My biggest gripe about the volume on the NS4G is the fact that at the half-way point for the ringer, notifications, etc., the volume is for all intents and purposes SILENT. Can't hear anything; and if you can, it's so faint it might as well be silent. And that's at the half-way point. At the far right end of the volume spectrum, i think the volume is fine (sure, could be louder at that extreme end). I sincerely hope the July 11 update fixes this issue.

yeah I had to change my ring tone so that it would make a higher pitch noise to offset the lower volume. I was missing calls left and right because I wasn't hearing the phone calls.

I have a problem hearing my alarm in the morning while sleeping.

Here's my thoughts: It's the software.

On my Epic: when updated to 2.2 everything was lower. However, the Epic had a "System Volume" settings which increased the system volume and made everything louder.

On the Nexus: The volume is about the same as Epic with 2.2 with System Volume at default settings. However, there is no "System Volume" setting to increase overall volume.

I think it's like that so it doesn't blow out the speaker. When I had the epic System volume all the way up I use to get weird feedback now and again.

the ringer/alarm volume is EASILY 50% more quiet than on my Hero. i have never been woken up by the alarm on the Nexus while i was never not woken up by the alarm the Hero...

With Volume+ the alarm volume is increased to the point that is very functional for me. The ringtones and notifications as I said before, are not greatly improved. Like chud, I also have loaded several tweaked mp3 ringtones to reduce the number of missed calls I had on account of not hearing the ringer.

If this update fails to address this volume issues, give volume+ a try, now they have a free app and don't require any root.
