Is there a way to make 4G icon go when on WiFi?

It's a little thing, but it's driving me crazy having both the WiFi and the 4G icons taking up space at the same time.

I've disabled Call ID but still no luck.

If you are connected to WiFi the 4G icon should not be displayed. If you are not on WiFi and connected to 4G, then the WiFi icon can only be removed if WiFi is disabled within the settings.

Not on my phone. When connected to wi-fi, I also get the wi-fi signal strength but 4G LTE remains in the status bar.

I use a widget called Data on/off.. When Data is off the 4g icon is gone.. I'm Not sure if this helps or not^_^

I use Tasker from Play Store. Whenever WiFi is connected, mobile data is automatically turned off.

There are other icons I wish we could get rid of. For example the GPS icon. I generally keep this turned off unless I need it. However, the icon is there all the time. No need for it unless it is turned on. Same with Bluetooth. Shouldn't be there unless I am connected, even when turned on.

I don't need the vibrate icon since my phone is on vibrate all the time.

Wish I could get rid of these too.

My G2 ( just got it today) is doing the same thing. Has anyone figured this out? I know that with my previous phones the Call ID app was the culprit. I have disabled the app but still both wifi and 4g LTE are showing in the status bar. Any help appreciated.

Turn off mobile data.

Xposed framework mods work great for that.
Cleaned up my status bar quite a bit. Much better IMO.

I would rather not root the phone at this time. If this is the way the G2 is then so be it. Is this the way it is or is it a problem with my phone only?

It's pretty much just the way the phone is designed. You can either root or toggle mobile data off completely.
