Is there a way to prevent an app from closing?

I run Endomondo Pro on my DNA and have an intermittent problem where the app may close on its own. When it does happen, it is typically after a phone call or SMS message comes in, but doesn't happen every time. I ran this same program on my Thunderbolt and never had this issue. Wondering if there is an app or other process to allow an app to run in a sort of protected mode where the OS won't close it, but close other programs instead if needed for resources?

If it has an option for a persistent notification, enable that. IIRC, apps can only register themselves as persistent services if they leave a notification in the notification tray.
