Is there a way to set a timer to turn my phone on/off?

So I just got this phone yesterday and I spent today downloading apps, exploring the phones features, etc. My last phone was a blackberry curve and it had a timer I could set that would turn my phone off everyday at a certain time and then turn it back on in the morning. I really liked this feature and I was wondering if there was any way I can do this on my Optimus? And I'm basically illiterate when it comes to phone terms, so put it the simplest terms possible.

Also, is it normal for this phone to get down to 20% battery power after 9 hours? I looked up some ways to save power and disabled wifi and gps, and I have been on the phone a lot today downloading lots of apps and stuff, but I want to make sure that it's working okay.

No to auto turn off its a bb thing. And yes that's normal for the battery android phones are battery suckers. And won't get neraly as good as battery life as a bb

I would feel lucky at 20% before i rooted. That sounds normal. When I first got my optimus I was very disappointed in the battery life

yeah same here. if you look around here you'll funds some mods to help battery life and some of the custom roms are alot better. I'm running ath3nos cm7 and some other battery stuff you can find (if you so inclined) on here and i can go about 24 hours on a charge...but out takes some work and alot of reading to under stand what your doing. be patient and read the instructions completely

Okay one more quick question, does my phone have to be on for the alarm to work? I had an alarm set for this morning that didn't go off and I assume this was because my phone wasn't turned again.

Yep - phone does have to be on for certain things to function, like alarm.

It CAN be in sleep mode (display black but phone still on in background) and alarm, etc will work.

Phone OFF = nothing (no alarms, no sms/mms receives, no calls, etc etc)

And use that to tweak your battery life - or use the Set CPU settings also referenced - it does help!
