Is there an Android equivalent of Cortana?

I just switched from a Windows phone to a G3 and one thing right off the bat that I miss is Cortana-especially when connected through my UConnect system in my car. Cortana was listed as a contact and all I had to do was call the contact and ask Cortana to do whatever. She also would read me my texts through blue-tooth in the car and let me reply back with voice texting. It was very simple and handy to use. I cant seem to find out a way to do this on my G3. Any help is appreciated

Im aware of Google Now. Google Now doesn't contact me through my Uconnect system when I get a text asking me if I want to hear it and then reply to it. That was the beauty of the Windows phone. I didn't set any of that up and when I first got that phone, I wasn't 1 block away from Verizon when got a text and was notified via my car's system. That was with Windows 8.0 installed. After I upgraded to 8.1 I was instantly able to reply via voice through my car's system as well. Im amazed my G3 isn't setup for that considering the popularity of android.

I'm packing up my G3 and shipping it back to Verizon today. I gave it a week, but found I couldn't live without Cortana's functionality, including interfacing with my car, as you mentioned. Plus how she enabled Quiet Time based on my calendar appointments without any intervention on my part. And I dearly missed Glance too. Way too many shortcomings in Android to try and overcome with different apps that are baked into WP8.1 in my opinion.

I can only hope someone comes out with hardware as nice as the G3 for Windows Phone. Soon!

I feel your pain. I was a Lumia 928/1020/1520/Icon HTC M8 for Windows user who now has a G3. I miss Cortana terribly, but the G3 DOES have quiet hours, just like Cortana. It has a VIP list to break through quiet hours, just like Cortana.

I have had ZERO luck getting Google now to read texts and let me speak replies to those texts while driving like Cortana used to.

My big thing is, I just couldnt deal with the APP GAP anymore.

Bring Cortana to Android!!!!!!!!!!

Try the app Agent. I use it for the quiet hours function at night and meetings, but it also has a Drive functionality where it reads your text and you can respond. I haven't tried it much for I have an older car that doesn't have bluetooth so Agent has to guess by my motion when I'm driving.

Also a WP8.1 refugee (Lumia 920/1020) and for the most part, I miss Windows Phone. It simply is a much better UI than anything offered up by Android or Apple. However, my experience is just the opposite... the G3 integrates with my car so much better than WP8.1. Part of it is just the design of the Pioneer head unit I have, the other is the power of Tasker which doesn't really exist with WP.

The Lumia 1520 was the only Windows phone I ever tried and it was a great phone. Stellar camera, fast performance, great screen, and great build quality. The apps were just too lacking for me... and that is too bad.

Completely agree. I love the Nokia build quality too. Best phone I've ever held. Just feels solid and premium. If they had the same apps as android, there is no way I would have ever switched. I use a 1st gen Moto X for now, but I'm grabbing the G3 in a couple of weeks. I'm really impressed with my wife's. Still miss the Nokia though.

why don't you consider getting a Motorola Hint Bluetooth headset? I think with that it is always listening, and basically will read aloud all of your notifications. then that way you can search and ask questions no matter what is going on...

you could also do the same thing with a cheaper headset and an application.

I miss the WP keyboard because the autocorrect is more accurate and it was working like reading your mind. On android no matter which keyboard I use cannot get the same user experience.

My Note 4 pauses the music with every notification. I hate that.

There's no tap to navigate when you receive street addresses via text messages or emails.

Also looks like everything requires extra steps and the OS is not optimized and still carrying absurd ways to do things from early versions.

However I like the customization and some better apps.

Have you tried SwiftKey? I think it's better than any other keyboard out there. Better prediction than anything else I've used. And I LOVED the keyboard that came with Nokia.

I'm using Swiftkey, it is good and is the most close to WP prediction but sometimes doesn't correct my typo errors when I type fast, with WP I can make a lot of mistakes in a single sentence and the result will be more accurate than Swiftkey, probably I need to correct myself first heheh.

The lack of apps on Windows phones, alone says never Windows for me. When the G3 interacts with your Bluetooth, it uses the LG created VoiceMate, instead of Google Now.

Actually, it's not really a lack of apps that caused me to move from WP to the G3. It was more the delay in apps. Everything you want or need is ultimately available in WP ... just not often enough at the leading edge for me. As above, the thing that tipped the scales for me is the better integration with my Pioneer head unit in my car (and my ability to script that interactaion with Tasker).

That said, Siri, OK Google, and VoiceMate are just not in the league of Cortana. The UI on WP is unmatched in the mobile space, and as someone who prefers MS privacy policies to Apple or Google ... the integration with Onedrive and Outlook.com is just better on a Windows platform.

If it wasn't for the car ... wouldn't be on Android.
