Is there any update on 4.3 for the S3?

People going bonkers on this thread. Of course there IS going to be an update (who knows when)... Samsung needs this update for S3 phones to be compatible with Galaxy gear smart watches. The smart gear is coming soon and probably hundreds of thousands of people are still on the S3. Pretty sure Samsung does not want to lose that size customer base. ...especially around the holidays.
Now the leaked document about 4.3 dates had been accurate so far. ... but I'm sure Sprint is going to test prior to releasing. ... we all just need some patience.

Like in the new Hangouts update. ... everyone is posting on the play store giving 1 star and whining about how they can't download the update. ... when it's already been reported it will roll out in stages. Imagine if millions of users tried to all update an app at the same time? ?? It would be crazy. ... but why give the app a bad review?

Sorry for the rant but seriously people. .... just wooooosaaaaa and be patient.
 
So, there was a screenshot showing the update was supposedly coming on the 6th. In this thread, someone mentioned there was discussion of the update on android authority. I checked the website and the only mention of the 4.3 update for the S3 is for the international version. A week ago, the 4.3 update started for the S4. Knowing that the updates come in groups, one week doesn't seem to be enough time for the update to go out to all the S4s. I recall the last S3 update took at least 2-3 weeks before I got the update notification.

Do you mean like the monthly Patch Day we get from Microsoft? It's obviously not an issue with Google having the servers and bandwidth to provide these updates we're dealing with here; it's a TOTAL LACK OF COMMUNICATION from the carriers (I'm on Verizon myself) whom we pay for both the devices and service, and not wanting to wait for them to insert more ways to fleece us and introduce bugs in the process that I think is really the issue that gets us all wound up. :p
 
Totally agree with you, major updates are a big deal that's for sure, I'm not going to get upset if it didn't come out on a day in a leaked document that states it is subject to change haha. At least with hangouts, we can sideload an apk, I've been texting with hangouts for almost a week now haha.
 
It's funny to me, if the leaked document never became public, we wouldn't have a 80 or so post thread talking about the update. We all would have went about our business with some of us (myself included) checing the RDF every so often (FYI, hasn't changed since Oct 28th). Once a date was put in our heads to expect the update, we all get excited, and then disappointed (especially after two of the dates on the leaked document proved accurate). There is obviously a push by Samsung to get their product lines onto 4.3, Sprint actually has a pretty good recent history with updates. I just wish the date never came out, because I obssess over it.

I dangerously close to buying a Nexus 5. At this point it's not even the money (I sold some old toys and built up a little toy fund). I obviously wish it had Verizon as well (to be able to try them all out). Being able to have the latest software is a huge selling point (the 4.3 we pine for is one dessert behind). I've been disappointed with reviews that talk about battery life (one thing I really apreciate) and the camera (6 month old daughter gets her picture taken A LOT). Then they say its the greatest phone you can buy. Anywho, I digress, hopefully we get some type of update, but history tells us that doesn't happen. To date Samsung has moved close to 60 million s3's. Most people hold on to their phones well beyond a year, and many (gasp) even keep them beyond contract expiration, so of course Samsung is going to tap into a built in customer base for the Gear. That said, please refrain from acting as the 'voice of reason' as I for one am entertained by the crazies. Better yet, flame those puppies and keep the fringe fires burning.

I have an unlocked International version. I'm not linked with any carrier. I have been waiting ever since I heard the news of Android 4.3 rolling out. Every day I check for the updates numerous Times. But nothing is there. But today I read the update has spreaded to other parts of Europe, Austria n Romania were one of them. I hope it will hit Asia soon. Yeah, I'm an Asian. :)

By the way and just curious. Why doesn't Samsung skip 4.3 and just go to 4.4? Serious question...:confused:

It's not a Samsung choice entirely, I think Sprint (carriers) have more of a say. The Manufactures release and support certain versions, give it to the carriers and it's up to them to then modify it for their network and release it to there phones. Most just got 4.4 and it will be a while before Sprint has it ready for the S3 IF they decide to even release it (hence skipping version 4.2). Anyone correct me if I am wrong?
 
Updates are great and all, but does anyone know if the update will stop any apps from working (say, PDANet or the like)?
 
Don't get me wrong and all I love my phone and my service but when these updates come out, it's like they only pushing the update to two ppl a day and no one you know have the update. It just sucks on how slow they do these roll outs

330 here in kansas and nothing....ill check again tonight then just give up till i see either the official update.zip posted or my phone gets it...at least thats how i did the last two got the update.zip and sideloaded
