Hi guys needing some help, heres my problem....

Have a Galaxy Tab 3 10.1" tablet and my son, who is three is getting the hang of it, so much that im finding apps moved on homescreen, extra pages added (sometime up to 10 blank homescreen pages) and he is downloading apps from advertss that are causing potental malware and problems overall, so i was wondering if there is anyway to restrict access to changing the homescreen and app placements, and to stop him accessing the apps from these annoying adverts.....

have searched high and low on the interweb and have come up empty, sure there are loads of ways to lock single apps but i need to lock the overall home screen setup so the little git cannot change things everytime he has the device...

Thanks in advance!!

thanks will give these a try but i would like to keep the look of the device as the kids have gotten used to the way it looks and works, but i will try these out asap, its a pity the tab and most other android devices dont allow the locking of the home screen and block changes with a password, but i guess its the blocking side they want to avoid of inputting the password wrong oh well lets give them a shot thanks for the advice will let you know how it turns out!!

That's because manufacturers assume their devices will be used by responsible adults or kids being supervised. Most people don't want their homescreen locked so it's not a popular feature.

thanks for your reply, and do you even have kids? guess not otherwise you would know that you have to have eyes in the back of your head at all times, and thats just not possible 100% of the time, also i would like my son to learn the new tech as what we are seeing now is only the start of there future in the tech world.....

I have no bank details on the device and monitor his activity with constant supervision, but as people with kids know they are very very good at doing things there not supposed to be doing in a short timeframe (hate to say also but i smell troll droppings in your immediate area...)

@b.diddy thanks for the constructive reply, will give this a try with him to see if he likes the setup it provides, if not i'll have to get used to tiyding up the homescreen every so often, its not so much bother but i like my devices to be in order

You've only got three posts and you're already name calling? You wondered why manufacturers don't include the functionality you want, and I made the mistake of answering you with my thoughts. Won't happen again.

Just for future reference you can multi-quote posts :) I think it's right next to the Reply with quote button

well your post sounded condescending ("responsible adults or kids being supervised") which in my eyes implied i was a bad parent, sounded slightly arrogant, and offered no answer to my problem what so ever, so can you see how your post sounded? too many times on forums about seeking help that i run into posts like yours offering no help and no answer, and now you come back with a "you're name calling..." didnt mean it to sound like that, but you just dont know these days, thanks for the helpful input......

Right back to the original problem.....

As for the app recommended in a answer from b.diddy, i have installed and set it up its looking very promising, i got to select the apps i want him to use, all ways out to the home screen are blocked and he cant install any ad apps due to the app locking out the internet access will try this out on him first chance i get thanks! it was a big help and ill post up an update to how it went.

use nova launcher for icon lock and perfect app protector for restricting app.

the first one was not for me, but the second one was!! so thanks as i also have a 7 yr old daughter who is starting to get wise to the world and its going ons so i used perfect app protector to lock out my/mrs emails and twitter accounts also the paypal app is now safely locked out as well as Amazon (she ordered the new 1D album..grrr) and Ebay so thanks again still1 very helpful app!!

I've been using Holo Launcher on my phone for a long time, and it has a setting that allows you to "lock desktop" which prevents long presses and adding/moving icons. I'm probably going to install it on my mom's phone because she's always accidentally deleting icons. It might not be exactly what you're looking for, though.
