Is there any way to restore backup to Galaxy S6?

Wow that's a mess. Is there a way to drag and drop the files from Kies to your desktop? If so then open the S6 to view folders and files and then the drag and drop everything into the S6. I never used kies because it made you have to download a file at a time and that was annoying. I always dragged and dropped everything because I was able to select everything at once. In the future try my backup pro from the app store but now that you have an S6 there's tons of cloud storage options

I've had the exact same issue, to bypass the same device problem I found this workaround. I'm not sure if it is listed on any other site, but I came up with it literally 20 minutes ago. So far so good, almost finished restoring Apps :)

The easiest way I have found, navigate to the BackupHistory.xml File location
(Win7 and above: %AppData%\Samsung\Kies3.0\BackupHistory\)

1. Create a copy of BackupHistory.xml for safeguard
2. Create a backup using the new phone in Kies3.0 of a single app or ringtone and note the timestamp.
3. Close Kies
4. Find the text 201601020723 (Format : [YYYY][MM][DD][HH][MM]) of your new device backup.
5. copy the lines <SerialNumber>XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX</SerialNumber>
AND <BnRIMEI>XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX</BnRIMEI>
6. Replace the above lines in the info timestamped with your original backup of your old device.
7. Open Kies
8. Restore as per normal.
9. Sit back, relax
10. Success

.

This is one thing that I hate about Android. No easy back up offering. There are 3rd party options like Titanium Backup or rooting and doing a complete back up image, but it's not as ease or straight forward.

What doesn't android back up apart from messages? I've just had a replacement 6P and as soon as I signed in it put back everything as it was on my old phone and N5 before it.

I got a new S6 and expected to be able to restore it from my old Nexus 5x backup on Google, but the Google restore option does not appear during setup. Why has Samsung disabled this? There seems no way to initiate a Google restore at a later date. I factory reset 3 times in case I'd missed something.

I've used Helium backup for all of my android devices. It is a bit tedious but it works very well. From what I've read, Marshmallow is going to offer the backup capabilities that we should have had for years now. I read that we will be able to backup all apps and data to Google Drive. Looking forward to that.

Game saves (for games that aren't cloud saved, which on this day and age it should be heresy), app-specific config files and media, actual apps, media...

As much as I hate the interface and way of doing things, iTunes does do a good job with backups in that respect: Plug in your iPhone, back up, plug in new iPhone, restore. Done.

Android does save some settings and will, most of the time, attempt to DOWNLOAD your apps again, but it's not a full-fledged backup. You're still re-downloading stuff (it's just saving you the hassle of going to the Play Store app by app). Any 'local' files and configurations will not be restored, either (thankfully, most apps are moving to a cloud-save option, so that helps). And that's why so many people still rely on apps like Titanium Backup.

All I do is clear the caches, plug in the USB to my PC, and then copy to my PC. Reverse the process to restore.

I don't see the problem
