Is this phone worth buying in spite of the issues?

Thanks. I just got off the phone with 611 and was told I can have a "Manager Approved" early upgrade but not to the Thunderbolt or iPhone. Doesn't matter though. I can still wait one more week and have my unlimited data. Thanks VZWRocks for starting the new thread. Sorry to get it sidetracked.

So please keep the recommendations coming. I have at least one more week to figure out if this is the phone for me and the good qualities posted here are certainly adding to the pro side of the list. I don't plan on rooting the phone just yet. While I can certainly appreciate the blank canvas that it offers would like to see how the phone operates as presented before making that leap.

The killer feature on the TB is the extra radio that allows you to stream data and provide hotspot service while making phone calls. This is about the only CDMA phone of which I know that has this ability when you're outside a 4G network. Even the Verizon store rep did not believe me until I demoed in store with my notebook, iPad, and phone web browser all surfing different pages while I was talking to him on his cellphone. This was in a 3G network area, since in my area we're not even on the map to get 4G anytime soon. I've been very pleased with my TB although the deck was stacked a bit coming off the Sprint Pre. I would not leave off the extended battery, I've not had any weight or heat issues and it provides a more comfortable grip for the phone.

Just wanted to bump this thread. I have a charge right now and am pretty satisfied with everything except for crappy touchwiz and some connectivity issues. I had a bolt back in the day but kept having some issues.

Now I'm thinking about going back, since the charge is definitely slower to use. I have heard from a few people that the lte connection is faster on the bolt, but is that true? I honestly can't remember from my time with the bolt. I know battery life is poor, but I remember all the tips and tricks to improve it.

I've read the same thing about the Bolt LTE radio seeming faster.

Setting aside my own personal feelings about Samsung for a minute, let me share with you some of my relevant experience with the Fascinate last year. It's not the same phone but I think it kind of applies here.

When I first got the phone I remember how fast (response wise) compared to my previous phones (Droid, DInc, and Devour), and yes even the data seemed a little faster (at first). But as I began to install apps on the phone and actually use it over time it seemed to slow down. A LOT.

Yes the same thing happened with each of my previous phones, but what I an getting at is that the Fascinate felt slower than my DInc, and at the time that phone had almost as many apps on it. Eventually the phone seemed to slow down that it locked up when updating more than one app at a time. The DInc never did that. The only time I had serious slowdowns on my DInc was when it got low memory errors and all I had to do was remove a few apps and reboot the phone at it was fast again. The Fascinate never had nearly as much (percentage wise) of the memory filled, and these same things never seemed to work.

My point here is that I think that a lot of people buy the charge because it SEEMS faster than the TBolt in the store but if it is anything like the Fasciante over time it will slow down and the only way I really got my speed back is to do a factory data reset and upgrade to Froyo. I may be wrong with I think the Charge may be the same way. I have yet to see these issues on my TBolt other than a brief time when I had the craptastic MR1 upgrade installed and was getting multiple reboots a day. .
