Is this the beginning of the end for Play Music?

What really bites for those of you that remeber is that Google bought Songza which was a great app and blended it with GPM. So in essence they have killed 2 apps and have left us YTM. Google seems to like killing apps. Let's hope they don't kill Waze.

I totally spaced on Google's acquisition of Songza.

I've at least reinstalled powerAmp. I made a music Juno drive for my commute car. I'll see about getting a larger storage device when I decide to upgrade again.

Same here. I use YouTube enough that any adverts would be extremely annoying.
I also read. I mean I'm not paying for YouTube premium just for YouTube music premium. However, I do find that $9.99 a month for YouTube premium for one person is a little hefty of a price. I doubt Google will Make the membership less expensive although that would be nice. Considering Google play Music is free even with ads it was free. But yeah I watchYouTube constantly So even if I were to pay for YouTube premium, it wouldn't be out of the norm.

I wonder and think it's probably an age thing and I've been wrong many times before, that most likely older don't want to pay and younger don't mind.

You're probably right. However, just because Google play Music application was getting older, that doesn't mean it's bad. A ton of Android users loved using it.

Well thank you! again this is not me complaining about YouTube music. I'm just complaining about paying $9.99 a month for the premium service. Google knows that no one's going to use the basic free version of YouTube music. You can't listen to it in the background / multitasking. There are a crap ton of ads. It's more about the multitasking and not being able to listen to music in the background from me. Google play music free had ads like crazy, but I could listen to it in the background while doing anything else on my phone. The only other thing I will admit about Google play Music free version, is that despite gestures in the UI seemed janky most of the time. I dealt with it cuz I didn't care too too much, but that's the only other knock I would give it.

I've actually said the same thing myself. And I am older and I don't like paying for subscriptions.

Personally I am totally with you!

The $9.99 a month subscription is what I cannot stand. While I hate subscriptions, I think that might be able to stomach $4.99, even though I wouldn't really be happy about it, at least it wouldn't be as painful at the $9.99 a month cost.

Yeah, I hear you completely! I feel so strongly about that I even sent the feedback to Google via YouTube music application on my phone. I doubt they'll make the subscription to any cheaper per month, but it's worth a shot. I mean like I said, I've tried Spotify and Pandora on my phone. Pandora's audio quality sucks for a bit right. Spotify is playlist and machine learning / algorithms kind of suck as well. It didn't give me the artist that I wanted to listen to or the types of music that I wanted to listen to when I wanted to listen to them. I know that there's a lot of people that swear by Spotify, that's great for them. But for me, YouTube music's prediction engine works great. I was paying about five bucks a month for XM Sirius in my car with their discount, so that's how I sort of justify for myself. However, YouTube music is about $4 more a month for me.

I never bothered with satellite radio, but I use YouTube Music (and formerly used Google Play Music) streaming in my car. I can't abide terrestrial radio.

Yeah, that's why I stopped serious XM satellite radio in my car. I couldn't dare pay for two music subscriptions monthly. YouTube music works fine it's a little bit more expensive, but it works in my car on my phone with my pixel buds etc etc

I had a trial with SiriusXM when I bought my truck. I cancelled it when it was over, not because I don't want to pay a subscription for music, but because it sounded like garbage. I couldn't stand the extremely low bit rate - it sounded like maybe 64kbps mp3 at best! I tested the app on my phone during the trial, and it sounded WAY better via BT in my truck than it did via the satellite receiver.

Really?? In my 2018 Accord sport my head unit made Sirius XM sound amazing. however the app on my phone that little bit right you were talking about you're right, it sucks for audio quality so much! That's why I didn't feel bad at all canceling it!
