Is Toshiba 2 a solid Chromebook?

I need a new cheap laptop for basically just messing around on the net. Was looking at Toshiba 2, Asus, and Acer but wary of the latter 2 as I've never used their products.

The Toshiba Chromebook 2 is very well-regarded (especially the full HD version). However, I would recommend the 2015 version over the 2014 version (they're both called the Chromebook 2, which is confusing). The 2015 version has either the Intel Celeron 3205U or the Core i3 processor, both of which are significantly better than the Bay Trail (N2840) processor in the 2014 version.

I have 3 Acer Chromebooks (C720, C740, and CB5-571), all of which are excellent, so I don't think you need to be wary of Acer. I don't have experience with ASUS Chromebooks, but they're also known for being solid devices.

I recommended the Toshiba Chromebook 2 2015 for my 75 year old and he loves it. I wish I had one. I ended up having to purchase the Acer C3-111, which works, because he was having trouble (he was coming from WIndows) so that I could support him. The particular Acer model that I have isn't the best, but that's because it's a bare bones low end model.

The Toshiba Chromebook 2 2015 is one of the best deals for the money, as it is one of the few that has a back lit keyboard which I think is a must have feature for lap top devices.

I think the most important spec in a Chromebook these days is having 4 GB RAM which the Toshiba has. My Acer only has 2 and sometimes it gets a little bogged down if I have a lot of tabs open. I wouldn't necessarily shy away from an Acer with 4 gig though.

I think one of the most interesting developments is the Android Apps coming to Chromebooks this fall. Both the Toshiba Chromebook 2 and most of the Acer models (including mine) are listed as supporting Android apps. Once Android comes along, it may behoove one to have a touchscreen on a Chromebook (currently I think there is little reason to have one). And almost no Chromebooks currently have one -- including the Toshiba Chromebook 2 2015.

So, if you are looking for a 13 inch Chromebook, and you can live without a touchscreen, I think the Toshiba is a GREAT CHOICE. It's one of the best deals for the money!!!!

I've actually been looking at the Acer 13 but I can't seem to figure out whether or not the one that I'm going to buy is a newer version of the 13 or an older one would anyone be able to help me out with that. is the one in the Google Store the one from this year? It's on sale right now and I can always upgrade later.

Are you sure you're not thinking of the newer Chromebook 14 (the sleek metal one)? I think the Chromebook 13 in the Google Store is the one that was released in 2014 (with the Tegra K1 chip), but I could be wrong.
