Is unlocking useful for using internationally?

So I understand that this Verizon Galaxy Nexus uses 4G here in the US and is a CDMA-only phone. That is, it is not a global-ready phone which also has a GSM radio in it.

However, can I use this phone with a local 3G CDMA provider in a country abroad?

If the CDMA provider abroad also uses SIM card, can I have this phone unlocked by Verizon, and then put in the other service provider's CDMA SIM card and use that service when I'm in that country?

Any help will be most appreciated.

Yes you can use the phone in CDMA enabled country but the roaming rates are very expensive (found out from experience).

As for your other questions I am not sure. However I do not think verizon would be willing to unlock their phone for you.
