I'm going to be traveling out of the country later this month and I need to know if the Galaxy Nexus on verizon is global ready. If not I'm gonna have to get an iPhone 4s for my trip and then return it when I get back. and I dont want to do that.

So does anyone know if it'll be global ready?
Sources included would be seriously beneficial!

Three years after OP, but I have the same question. I've read that Android 4.2.2 made the Nexus GSM compatible, but I'm not quite savvy enough to understand whether or not this is actually true. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks!

The Verizon Galaxy Nexus does not have the capability to operate on GSM networks.

I absolutely don't mean to challenge you, but for my own benefit, why does the Nexus wikipedia page (and the source sites at the bottom) all say that it has GSM connectivity for 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 frequencies? Is this only for certain variants of the phone?

That refers to the GSM variants of the phone. The summary section at the right side of the Wikipedia article doesn't explain the differences between the various versions and is actually incomplete since it doesn't list the CDMA frequencies for the Verizon and Sprint variants (only mentioning LTE). The Variants section of the article does a better job of explaining the differences between the various versions.

The Verizon variant definitely does not have a gsm radio in it. It's lte and CDMA only.

I traveled to the Philippines with my Verizon Galaxy Nexus back in February, 2012. Couldn't make or receive calls. 3G/4G bar indicator wouldn't even light up. I do remember the phone knew where I was since I got this text message from Verizon (as soon as I powered up the phone) welcoming me to the Philippines and reminding me about long distance roaming charges. I was sending and receiving text messages from my U.S. contacts. Internet through WiFi worked and I used VoIP apps like Viber and Tango for calls.
