Hi I just got a Samsung galaxy s4 sch-i545 verizon phone online I'm trying to unlock it so I don't have to worries about getting a Verizon plan I heard there's away to get it to work with out a sim card all you need is a code .is there anyone that can help me??

Hello, I also think to use my verizon s4 in Turkey this summer, they use 2100mhz for 3g. but I am not sure if i will be able to get 3g speed with local simcards. Were you able to get data in 3G? Thank you

When people talk about "bloody expensive" international roaming rates are you talking about the $1.99/min for calls back to the US, or is there a roaming charge in addition to that? If two of us have the Global Voice Plan and we call each other because we got separated, do we both have to pay the $1.49/min charge for local calls? I'm would just like to able to use our current phones to keep in contact with each other as we tend to get separated. Just texting might be sufficient.

I know this is an S4 thread but I am getting the Note 4 with Verizon switching from unlimited data on Sprint. The Note 4 is also supposed to be SIM GSM unlocked. I do not have any current plans to leave Verizon but if I keep going over data I may want to try out TMobile. I realize it may be a little early to ask because the phone is in preorder status right now and not officially released for a few weeks but if I enter the correct APN should both LTE and 3G data work?

Hmmmm, this is why I'm reading this thread myself. Last year I brought my S3 to the Philippines and they cut a regular sim down to micro sim size and everything worked except the phone calls. Data no problem. I believe that it's because they cut it wrong and I need to find a place where they have actual micro sims for sale. I now have an S4, so I'm hoping that both phones will work after doing this. If they don't, oh well. Gonna have to buy a phone there.

The Verizon SCH-I545 is definitely SIM unlocked from the factory. I bought one for this specific reason because I wanted an S4 but did not want to be locked into a contract and at the time when it first came out the only non-contract S4 you could buy was from cricket and I didn't want to be on cricket either so I bought a used i545 for $300 popped in an AT&T paygo SIM card and have been using it ever since with no problems. Only downfall is that I only get HSPA+ and not LTE because the bands for LTE are not compatible.

You can often find APN settings for various carriers on their websites or via search. I haven't used my GS4 outside the US, but got mobile data and MMS working with a T-Mobile SIM after finding the recommended APN settings on TMO's website.

Create a new APN entry for your carrier by going to Settings/More Networks/Mobile Networks/Access Point Names, hit the menu key and select Add new access point name. Hit menu to save the entry and reboot.

Yeah, this stuff is just so confusing at least to me. As I said before my data was working. I was using wifi not a carrier based plan. I don't know if that makes a difference. I think I may be using both on and off once I move there.(Philippines) I hope I don't have to mess with that APN stuff. One thing I do know for sure is that if you buy a Galaxy phone that's not assigned to a carrier it works right away when you put in the Sim card in the host country. The problem occurs when you try to bring your phone that you have been using on a carrier based plan in the states to another country. My phone is not rooted either. I don't know if that makes any difference either.

I am in London currently with a Galaxy S4 Verizon.

The device is rooted, but I never did anything to lock or unlock the SIM.

The device does accept SIM cards, I got one from EE. It says "SIM card is from unknown source" but if you just crash the setup wizard it'll go away and you'll be fine.

Voice and SMS work out of the box. Data works once you configure the APN and turn on global mode.

However, the device cannot see the LTE bands EE is using so it is operating in HSDPA and HSDPA+ mode. I tried switching to LTE/CDMA but it can't find a signal, and GSM/UTMS tops out at HDSPA+

All that said, the phone is very much useable in England.

However, one thing I'll note. The SIM card translated the phone numbers into British Numbers. It changes them back once you put the Verizon sim in (I tested before I left USA) so using apps like Google Hangouts doesn't work unless you A.) Recieve the text first or B.) Initiate from a PC.

Wow! What a mess. At this point I'm thinking, use CoPilot for GPS (no data needed-$10) and use What'sApp for texts (no data needed-free). Both can be downloaded onto your Smartphone.
Just wondering: did the folks who had trouble activate their phones using the IMEI number as well as the SIM card number? I understand both are needed, as well as setting it to Global.
BTW, what does it mean for the phone to be rooted?

Actually you are wrong and the guy who said you are wrong is right. I just added an APN to my verizon Note 5 in the Phillipines. I bought a Globe SIM and did the following.

1.Installed nanosim
2.Added pre-paid load to the phone
3Went into the developer options and chose the OEM unlock option
4.went into mobile networks, selected access point names, selected add.
5 using the information from
I was able to follow the instructions which told me to
Use HT TP.GLOBE.COM.PH if you're a Prepaid or TM subscriber. (no spaces)
Use INT ERNET.GLOBE.COM.PH if you're a Postpaid subscriber.

I named it Globe put in the http.globe.com.ph for the apn and now I have 4G LTE on my verizone phone through the globe sim card in the philllipines.

Although I have yet to test abroad, before even finding out about unlocking the phone, I called metroPCS (my carrier) to have them register or whatever they do with the imei and switched my sim into this verizon s4 I've been trying to use, after copying a friend's apn and a few other settings, I was able to get my 4g data, but it would disappear at times quite often, send / receive calls, but also dropped at times, was able to receive texts but was not able to send texts they would just fail to send. And then there was the carrier differences like I could not get my metroPCS voice mails on verizon phone, although later on in found you can download most metro apps in play store. But it wasn't reliable enough so I switched back to a different generic Samsung android. I have since rooted the s4 as well as been working on getting recovery flashed and framework installed. I've had a little hiccup and am not able to fully boot the phone up at the moment but once I get to a computer I can sort that out. But now that it's rooted I've been trying to find out how I can unlock the phone. Is there anyway to fully get all the verizon that's infested in seemingly every inch of this phone?
