Is your Nexus 7 slow? Should I wait for the new one?

My 32GB N7 has slowed down considerably even though I only have about 16GB of space used-up. I tried all of the published tricks on this stock, non-rooted N7 and after a noticeable speed-up subsequent to running "ForeverGone", it's back to slowness and hesitations. The oddity is that I have not installed many new apps since the slowness started. This morning for example, it is as if the N7 froze. It took almost a minute before it became responsive. Then screen scrolling became a chore. Rebooting doesn't bring back responsiveness, only running "ForeverGone" gave me noticeable but temporary improvement. Disappointed? Yes... and to those who say "root", why should I? This Google branded N7 should not exhibit this and Google should release an update to fix this as it seems to be fairly common. I know that they did something for the 16GB model but mine is a 32GD N7 (sigh)

So you recommend the $400 galaxy note 8 over the Nexus 7?

I've come to the conclusion that for general usage iPad mini is best but for movies and TV shows Android is the best.

The slowness that some users are seeing is really perplexing. I have 276 apps (yeah, I could get rid of a whole lot but haven't gotten around to it) loaded on my 16GB N7 and 2.8GB of available memory left (and have had it down to 1GB), I have widgets running and have also used live wallpapers and I haven't had any performance degradation. It's faster than my Xoom by a long shot, a good deal snappier than my Transformer Prime, is faster than my wife's Galaxy 10.1 and Kindle Fire, and gives my Galaxy S3 a good run for the money. By no means am I questioning anybody's claim of slowness - I'm sure it is quite real and irritating - it's just difficult to understand what the underlying problem is.

What do you like the most about your Nexus 7, and what do you not like about it? Is the screen big enough?

As for me, I like the feel of my Nexus 7. The textured back feels good in the hands. It's not too heavy, and doesn't get too heavy when used one handed in reading mode.
I do wish it came with at least 2GB of RAM. I had to install a widget that monitors the amount of available RAM left because my RAM keeps falling less than 200MB. When that happens, things get a little sluggish. The widget allows me to free up RAM with one touch.

The point of this thread isn't whether or not to get an Android tablet; it's which Android tablet to get.

Fair enough I was just telling the OP my experiences with Android tablets, I wasn't pushing the iPad on the OP just giving a recommendation but whatever tablet they choose, awesome and hope they enjoy it!!

I'd still choose the legacy Nexus 7 over the Note 8.0, but if you can afford to wait a little while, the new Nexus 7 is hands down the winner (based on the announced specs thus far).

Why does the Nexus 7 slow down after a while? Deja vu, reminds me of Windows XP.

Because Google decided to go with a Tegra 3 instead of Snapdragon. This year's nexus 7 won't have lag issues like the current one.

Just want to give my take on these slowdowns on the N7 that people are complaining about....I have no slowdowns on my Nexus 7, except for when things are loading in the background......example...I keep my N7 in airplane mode when I'm not using it in the evenings to sort of save some battery life. When I take it out of airplane mode in the morning the tablet goes out and looks for my email, twitter, Facebook messages, and app updates. The N7 becomes unusable at that point until everything syncs or updates. To me the lag is understandable with the amount of ram available....after all the updates, my N7 runs very speedy.

This is the kind of lag I experience as well but IMHO it is not acceptable. My older GNex is able to turn on and start downloading emails without bringing the phone to a crawl. Why can't my newer arguably more powerful tablet do the same? Don't get me wrong I still like my Nexus 7 but I would never recommend anyone (unless money is very tight) get one right now.

+1 for trying to take it easy on your parents wallet. Smart 15 year old.

The reason is Tegra 3.

Just like any device, software updates and additional features tax the hardware more, but since the hardware never changes, it just gets slower and slower.

Can anyone explain to me why, when scrolling through the Nexus 7 section of the 'android' central forums there are people on here recommending buying an iPad or iPad mini? Why are the people who love apple on this forum? I'm confused............ Did I miss something? The OP asked about 2 dif android devices.....

PS, my N7is 4 months old and hardly slowed down, and got about 8 gig left out of the 32. Surely it all depends on what you run and what apps you have that determine speed... My recomendation is wait for next N7. :-)

Because many people own both like I do. Had I bought an iPad first, I never would have bought a Nexus 7.

I have had mine since November last year, and it works great as the day i bought it. I would love to get the new one though, but i think i'll give the one i have another year.

The best thing I like is probably the screen.

Worst would be the battery life. Using TomTom for 1 hour and 45 minutes, it went from 91% to 60. For anything else, I am lucky to get 1 to 2 hrs usage between charges.
