Hi All-

Just activated my Project Fi phone on Tuesday. Yesterday, I received two Amazon deliveries for which I also receive a text message confirmation upon delivery. To my surprise, no text confirmations were received. I contacted Project Fi support via email and they stated that some short code SMS messages cannot be received at this time due to the beta status of Project Fi. I was also told that it can take up to 24 hours after the port for everything to be working correctly. The deliveries were less than 20 hours after the port.

Anyone else experiencing this issue? I have no pending deliveries from Amazon to test out the 24 hour waiting period.

Yes! I use 2 step verification for Facebook & Twitter and I can't receive the texts that contain my login codes. I emailed with support and their only solution was to contact those sites. I also received an Amazon text saying my notifications were stopped, so I don't know how that got through.

Ironically, I worked around the Twitter issue by using an additional Google Voice number to receive the texts. For Facebook, I realized I could use the Google Authenticator to generate the login codes. I'm just concerned that I'm going to need to receive short code messages in the future and they won't get through.

Why were they stopped?

That's my concern as well. This was Project Fi tech support's final response:
The problem with this is the short code. Since we are new and still in beta, not all short codes work. They are still working on those. One thing that has been helpful to some is to text HELP to the actual 5 digit short code itself, then re-attempt with the service to receive the text verification. If you still have issues after that, gather timestamps with time zones, and submit feedback in the Project Fi app. That feedback goes to the team that works on those issues to find resolutions.
Not very helpful in my case.

Ugh, this is a serious problem. Fortunately most of these services let you also send an email in addition to the SMS.

I'm not sure why my Amazon texts were stopped. I ported my number over from Sprint, so maybe that had something to do with it? I just received the message saying they stopped and there was a reply option to reactivate them, so I did. I haven't ordered anything yet to find out if they are working or not.

FYI...today I started receiving my Facebook text messages again from short code 32665.

This is due to hangouts and project fi taking over your sms.

You can receive short codes by going into hangouts's settings --> account settings , click on your project fi google account --> uncheck "Messages"

This will disable sms in google hangouts and make it so you no longer are able to receive texts on other phones/devices that we've known to love and it will work like conventional text where you only get the text on that phone.

One thing that can (and does) happen when porting over to a new carrier, apparently companies that you get short codes from can "see" the change -- that the short code is going to a different carrier. Because of this, thinking that the number has been reassigned, some companies will "unsubscribe" your number or, at least, want you to re-verify that it is still your phone number.

I have also had a problem because I ported from my GV number. Despite the fact that it is not an active cell number, I have at least one company that won't send short codes because it still believes it is a virtual phone number.

This is a common problem that all short codes stop working. Please raise this with customer support and ask them to escalate it. They now have a script where they ask you to send the word "help" to some of the services. If you get "service access denied" as a response you have a problem with your Fi profile that their engineers can fix. This happened to me at the time I ported to Fi and again suddenly a few weeks later. Both times it was resolved and I now get all short code messages.

It's very annoying that they haven't fixed the core issue but if everyone complains and escalates maybe they will.
