Issue when sending a text to multiple recipients

For some reason when I mms like a picture to multiple people it seems like they can see everyone that it was sent to and replies are sent to all. I just sent a picture to two random friends and one of them called me saying the other person she doesn't know called her

Is this just an Android thing? At times I miss the simplicity of my Blackberry.
