Issue with Chat settings .. help needed

Device: Galaxy S9 Plus
Android 9 running on all the latest updates

From the native messages app, (sms/mms) If I go to menu > settings > chat settings , I will get the registration page for the chat service .. I take it it's their new chat service from a recent Samsung update.

Now, my wife, with the identical phone .. when she follows the same steps, upon pressing "chat settings" she gets a "cannot connect at this time" and the app closes. She is able to send sms and mms normally though .. she just gets a crash when she reaches that point.

Any suggestions on what might be causing this?

She can try clearing cache,data and force stop the message app , see if it correct it .
