Issue with the phone voice mail signal

I just got my s5 Active and love it. The major problem I'm having with it is the manner in which it signals a waiting voice mail. So far the only indication I know of is a tiny check mark by the caller's id on the log file. I've missed a couple of important calls because I did not know they were there. Any way to have a real obvious indication of a waiting recorded phone message?
