Issue with wired headphones with mic, volume controls?

I am having trouble playing music over my Xiaomi Piston 2 headphones. When I plug them in, the phone does not recognize that headphones have been plugged in and play music over the phone speakers. A few times I have been able to get it to work by plugging them in very slowly, but that doesn't always work. All my other headphones work without issue, so I think it must be because of the button controls. Can anyone else confirm?

Bumping this, just realised the controls on my V-MODA M100s don't work either. All headphones play sound correctly, it's just that the controls don't work.

There seems to be a design error on the impedance input of the headphone jack of the phone making most in-line volume controls un-usable..

I have the M100s too and the controls do not work. Called V-Moda several weeks ago and they are aware of this but there probably will not be a fix as the issue is with the compatibility between the 6P and the M100s [the finer details as to why this is eludes me at this point].

Went ahead and got the Crossfade Wireless which work fine.

That's a shame. It isn't much of an issue for me since I control music playback via my watch, but for others it will be kind of annoying. Does the microphone at least work?
